No.
What happens is you make an account on starbucks.com, download the app on your phone, paste in the card info, and the card is now registered to your account and you can pay by scanning your phone at the cash register.

Yes, this is correct but always have a "safe" card on hand and be prepared for the barista to sometimes say "sorry sir your card is no good because it has been shut down. we dont know why so please call sbx for more information."

I have 10 dollars on a safe card, and the rest on all seperate cards. Never have it all one 1 card, because if that one gets closed, you will lose it all.

Could there be an legal implications of this ? Or at the most they would just reject the card and ask us to use another mode of payment ?
I am actually interested in trying one of these cards out. Also do these work online ?

Assuming that I load one of these cards onto a mobile app. Would it also affect other cards I have on the same app  ?

EDIT: I just did lot of research and have answers to some part the question except for "Could there be an legal implications of this ? Or at the most they would just reject the card and ask us to use another mode of payment ? "

I have never been rejected in store, however 1 card went dead on me. I called them to ask why, they just said tough luck and I got nothing.
I wasn't legally charged or anything, you are just out of your 100$.

they will just shut down that one card, however if it happens too many times they will shut down your account.  read their account terms and conditions. i have had a few cards rejected in store over the last year or so (have bought & used dozens).  the worst one was my first one over a year ago.  i lost over $200 of "real" money,  i stupidly merged it into my gold card and boom .... all gone.  i had bought that card off ebay not here.  also had cards go bad bought from raise.com,  happened both to dunkin donuts and sbx from raise.  also bought physical cards with egifts then tranferred that to a 3rd card ..... boom, shut down.  they can easily track them.  over the long haul i am way ahead. i have some unused cards from here going back almost a year.  its a crapshoot. but despite what any seller claims the chances are 99%  these cards are obtained from "questionable sources."  since there is no way to buy "real" sbx cards at a discount of more than maybe 5%-10% at a place like lowes or target or whatever (not even sbx employees get a discount on gc's) how can a so called "legit seller" sell one for $15,$20,$30 or whatever for $100.  i guess maybe someone can buy a card from a store with a stolen credit card or a hacked gift card so tecnnicaly the card is legit but not how it was obtained.

From her email to me, she mentioned that alot of sbux cards are crapping out instantly or in a few hours (unlike before).  She said once there is a "fix" then she'll be back on here ready to sell.  ETA is unknown tho  Undecided

What changed?!? What did starbucks do on their end??

I'll take an "ECROWN"!!!   My husband always says I'm the queen of the house.

Yea, I miss Sophia too especially since all these morons are showing up hijacking HER thread.  She should lock it until when or if she comes back.

Not sure that it has anything to do with Starbucks -- although it could. That would be impossible to determine. One possibility is that the latest batch was "old", meaning the period of time from which these cards had been purchased (fraudulently) was significantly longer than with previous batches. My thinking is that most chargebacks occur once the credit card statement arrives -- weeks later. In this case, those weeks of lag didn't exist.

Just one possibility, anyway.

Interesting theory and makes sense although I have probably 6 or 7 unused cards bought from various sellers (and none of those sellers survived more than a week (at least under the name they used) that are anywhere from 3 to 12 months old and still good. It could be some are purchased with "real" money that is being "moved" and some are just taken from hacked accounts.  The hacked account cards are pretty obvious because they have many transactions (store purchases) already on them.  Those rarely last.
