BAM!
Amtrak Buffer Car 10404
Just there to add to the axle count so the train will activate the crossings on CN tracks. But it does add to the feel of a natural passenger train being an ex-baggage car behind the engine and all.
A 1953 Budd car, which started life as ATSF 3515, and then originally for Amtrak as 1031, it became 1218 in April 1978, before its October 2005 rebuild into 10404. The other buffer is 10405, which was rebuilt in December 2008 from 2509 "Pacific Terrace" , and was 2889 before that February 1998 rebuild. Before that, it was 2637, a 1950 Budd 10-6 slleeper which started as UP 1444 until a January 1980 HEP rebuild.
