Ya know, while I'm here, you believer sorts need to step back and look at the bigger issue on the table. That you fear a fictional entity like this says a lot about your own paradigm - and how susceptible you are to group think, hive mind, crowd conformity, willing servitude, and self imposed victimization.

The very people the Illuminati were originally supposed to be are the exact opposite of people who believe to this day the Illuminati exist. Actually, they do. They're known today as Atheists - or, post smoking college professors. These groups do *not* control the world. They have money and get a lot of advantages but they don't *control* the world.

If you're feeling controlled, the problem lies with you, not them. You're the one giving them the authority over you, letting them. You're the one fully accountable for going along with it.

Freedom means self governance. When you've mastered that, you control you and serve no masters.

Religious sorts are slave minded, they've been brainwashed and conditioned since childhood to live on their knees and automatically cow to some voice of authority - that's all religion is and ever was: creating drones and slaves and cowards. If you are all wrapped up in your gods then you are a puppet, you're the one they manipulated into doing their bidding...they control you because they can. Because you let them.

Do they exist? Depends what you mean by 'they'. I don't think they 'control' the world per se though they might want to, but there are certain groups of powerful and wealthy individuals who want to and will buy as much power and influence as they can to shape certain world invents. War is a business and the oil and arms industry and banks profit immensely from this and what better way than to get governments to give them their citizens taxes by buying arms to invade countries then charging them more to rebuild it and the banks lend them more money when they need it and it's the government that bails them out when they screw up. It's legalized money laundering on a global scale. The politicians of course get a kick back from this is various ways.

Wow, I have the first edition of that Illuminati game from Steve Jackson.  Ultimately it led to their company being raided by the Feds, because the Feds were sure that IT WAS NOT A GAME.  The raid almost killed their company.  It was a famous case at the time, involving Phrack Magazine and the E911 document.

EFF got on the case and sued the US government with Steve Jackson.  They won this case and it set some important precedents.
Much of which have later been undone, but it is a good case to keep in your knowledgebase anyway.

The rise of christianity threatened to wipe out all advances in mathematics, reason and philosophy. The final blow was the murder of Hypatia by a christian mob in Alexandria.

At this point, the Pythagoreans & Neoplatonists went underground. They pretended to be christians while secretly passing on mathematics.

After the renaissance, mathematics was able to return from hiding without as much persecution by christians. Science would be confined to the observable and testable realm. Math would only be a tool that just "happened" to coincide with physical phenomena. Religion would still rule the realm of the untestable.

After this, the Illuminati split up into several groups. Some groups kept the name, other groups changed their name. Most eventually died out as the need for secrecy was greatly reduced.

Due to their deep understanding of math and philosophy, some became bankers and accumulated great wealth and power.

Bitcoin will change that. In a way, we are the new Illuminati. We will illuminate the world.

A better question would be, do there exist dark occultists that seek to use black magic for personal gain?
