Up for sale in this listing is the .5 BTC Silver Series 2 Casascius Coin.  Only 45 of these were made by Mike Caldwell as referenced in his blog post:
http://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/07/23/status-on-silver-coins-july-23/

This makes this particular Casascius coin the 2nd rarest Casascius coin produced second only to the Gold 1000BTC coin.

This coin has been graded by ANACS with the grade of MS66.  This is a high quality grade with the majority of Silver Casascius coins getting a MS65 or lower grade.  Only the higher quality strikes and handling receives the MS66-MS67 grades.

The last public record for the sale for one of these coins was two ungraded coins for 13.5 BTC each.

Both series-2 silvers have been sold, for 13.5 BTC each. I'll let the buyer decide if they wish to reveal their identity. Thanks, everyone, for your interest!

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I think if it was an MS-60, it'd still be the highest known grade Wink

I'm deliberately not grading mine (chain of custody, natch), but I'd be damn curious to know if any of my previous buyers have had theirs graded.

Where's Melbustus? He can add this coin to his list of Series-2 0.5s Smiley

I'll call Sotheby's, we're all watching....hahaha.

Is anyone tracking the sales of the really rare coins (like this one)? It'd be nice to have some background as they come up but obviously it's not easy to track and follow.

Chainsaw's thread is the closest thing to what you're asking about. I generally try to post noteworthy sales there.

Not sure if you are talking about this particular coin or Casascius Coins in general.

This particular variety was a limited production version of his .5 BTC Silver coin.  Only 45 of these were made with the series 2 hologram sticker.  He produced about 885 of the .5 Silver coins with the Series 3 hologram sticker.  The coin in this listing has also be certified and graded by ANACS.  ANACS is a numismatic coin grading company that grades collectable coins on a scale of 1-70.  The highest known grade for Casascius coins to date has been MS67.

Casascius Coins
Produced by Mike Caldwell and he no longer produces the coins.  These were the first physical coins loaded with BTC and he started making and selling them in 2011.  He has since stopped production.
