Russia may ban cryptocurrencies by 2015

Russia is set to become the latest country to restrict virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, after a top official announced that a law will be passed banning their exchange into real money by next spring due to their use by criminals and terrorists.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Russia  Roll Eyes. There's certain aspects of their culture and society that are just so backwards. Banning something like bitcoin is just abhorent for these silly reasons. Criminals can just as easily use government issued fiat.

BTC-E has nothing to do with Russia. Although BTC-E was established by Russian citizens (Alexey and Alexander), it was originally based in Kiev, Ukraine. After a few months, they moved to Bulgaria as the Ukrainian authorities were having problems with the tax aspect. Right now they operate out of Sofia, Bulgaria, although almost 100% of their staff is Russian.

Anyway... the heading says "they might ban the Bitcoin after one year" and not "they will ban the bitcoin in 2015". If they actually wanted to ban the Bitcoin, then they would have done that already (for example, the bans by China and Thailand). Russians are concerned that Bitcoins might be used to fund the Islamist insurgents in Daghetsan and Chechnya. Seems like they are overestimating the intelligence of these rebels.  Grin

Bitcoin is not banned in China.
I can't believe you spend so much time on this forum and still post this.

“People can play with their chips, and they can call them money, but they can’t use these surrogate currencies as tender,” Deputy Finance Minister Aleksey Moiseev told journalists in Moscow.

“We will discuss this law in the current session of parliament, and possibly even pass it then, or at the very latest by spring next year. We are currently dealing with comments from the law enforcement agencies, about the specifics of legal measures, and we will take their remarks into account. But the overall concept of the law is set in stone.”

According to the Deputy Finance minister which I quoted above , it is. Wink.
Who is against bitcoin  China , Russia , Vietnam , Thailand , Bolivia...
Who is pro EU , US Canada...

And to think how many people demonize the EU and US here.

Countries that claim to be enemies in the media are not really enemies.  If Russia wanted to take down the US, denominating their oil in Bitcoin would do the trick, easy mode.  But they won't do that.  Central bankers are just buddies bribing buddies.

Carry on, puppet-show.

Haven't they already declared earlier that it is illegal for companies to deal in bitcoin there?

Do your fucking research and stop believing what people randomly post up on the internet as fact, Thailand, China and Russia were all falsely reported on, Thailand hasn't banned Bitcoin in the slightest, Russia and China have only restricted their trade. This article seems to be more legitimate because RT actually have people like Max Keiser on their channel who are in the know about cryptocurrencies so if Russia is actually going to make a move on cryptocurrencies Russia Today will definitely be informed.
