Currently the best CPU mining coin might be XMG / MagiGive a try to BSTY or Slimcoin. They are more professional, IMHO.

There is no best coin, just look at the options and compare the computing tasks involved in feeeding different kind of coins. Gridcoin for example is a good option to mine with a CPU. Miners can choose BOINC projects to partake from, tailored towards their hardware. This means that payout is in scale, or even the same as with GPUs.

If you want to fry your CPU then go ahead.
If your CPU would fry with mining, than it's you fault. No CPU will fry with mining if it has adequate cooling.

Even if CPU has proper cooling but still its not worth mining , profit would be pennies .

Even if CPU has proper cooling but still its not worth mining , profit would be pennies . I'm pretty sure my CPU won't fry at 55C. Question: If there were no asic's or fpga's would Bitcoin be profitable to GPU mine? If there were no GPU's would Bitcoin be profitable to CPU mine? Right. Supply and demand plus difficulty.

i guess i could go both ways with this thread,
CPU mining is ok i guess. But it doesn't cost very much to grab one or two grid seeds.
i bought 2 of them around 65$ for both on ebay. (including the psu. most dont so they can be cheaper if you already have it)
You can buy higher end stuff like block erupter cubes and all the crazier stuff but i decided to start on a mini miner budget.
i use to cpu mine but my quad core got so hot being a laptop it was cheaper to buy asic scrypt miners and a fairly cheap hub.
just my thoughts. Correct me if you need too.. i'm fairly new to mining threw asic my first miner was a set of 5 block erupters haha

Good luck having fun with them. I'm sorry but you're late for the train. You could mine for fun now, but forget making money with this. The gold rush time is over.

If you are looking for a currency to mine that only has cpu mining supported i would check out pirate-coin go to piratecoindub . com you can mine for doubloons using the qt wallet! They will only allow mining until it cant be done on a CPU/OR GPU anymore.
