I voted "Keep things the way they are" before I realized how many domain topics this "liteon" has. Personally I think each domain seller can just make 1 topic and merge all the domains in 1 topic. I am actually interested in buying domains and that would be more easy for me too.

But yeh, currently the Auctions forum is indeed not good. One of following 2 must happen indeed imo:
- domain sub-forum (generally I don't like the idea of too many sub-forums)
- force same user to sell all domains in 1 topic (at least not 100 like now)

I agree, too many subforums will fragment everything too much.

Sinecoin / liteon / 1Referee / etc, can you guys maybe combine all your auctions into a weekly post or something?

I would say that both the auction subforum and the digital goods subforum should both have their separate subforum. Domain sales/threads are seriously junking up both of these subforums and are hampering commerce.

PLEASE separate them.  The auction forum is no longer usable unless you are looking for a domain.

It does seem to be an issue, but looking further ahead, I'm not sure a new board is a good solution. These guys would quickly make it pretty useless too. Might be better to limit the amount of auctions one can have at any given time.

In addition, there should probably be a limit to how many times a thread can be bumped, at least consecutively (so it wouldn't apply to active threads with replies). If you've been bumping your topic for days and there's no interest, then it's pointless. Also, how many bumps per day total overall to stop the bumping of a dozen threads a day.

I posted this before: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=782510.0. BB is right that although a subforum would in the short term move the problem elsewhere, it doesn't necessarily solve the problem which is a few domain 'sellers' [aka people registering every garbage domain for $2 and trying to sell them for $100] making 20 threads and bumping them repeatedly for weeks.

It does need to be addressed though.

There are essentially no domains that have any value in either the digital goods nor the auctions sections. If we were to move all the domain threads to their own sub forum then we would simply have 99%+ shit threads in one sub forum and there would be more room for more legit commerce in the digital goods and auctions sub forums, which would likely result in more commerce being done in these sub forums

It's definitely a problem in need of a solution; a separate subforum for domains would help, but it wouldn't be any more usable than the Digital Goods section as it is. A single thread per person with a list of every available domain would help a lot with the clutter, but if they can't edit their posts then it wouldn't be very effective.

On that note:

The problem is that we are constantly buying domains and we can't edit previous posts so we need to make new ones.

Why not? I've never had issues editing posts, and I don't know of any subforum-specific rules, though I'm not very active there.

A limit to thread bumps would help, as would a limit to the number of simultaneous threads; if domain auctions were collapsed into a single post that only lasted as long as the interest in it, they might be seen as something useful instead of as spam.

I believe he was talking about the auction section, in which you can't edit or remove your posts there after posting them.

The answer to that is to ban domains from the auctions subforum if its such an issue. Of the 30 domains on the front page I sampled, there was literally no activity in any of them. No bidders means you dont need to hold an auction in the first place.

Ah, that makes sense then; I've never posted in the Auctions subforum, and rarely look there, so I didn't know about the restriction (though I suspected something like that might be the case).

I'm reluctant to support a ban of domain auctions, but the amount of them in the Auctions subforum is ridiculous (several times that of Digital Goods, which I was referring to). Since they're mostly from the same few people, maybe a restriction to one domain thread per person per week would work; domain names could be aggregated into a single post, and there'd be a lot less clutter even if the thread was bumped a few times.

I don't think creating more policework for the mods is the best solution either.

Domains-only subforum is silly, we can all agree, because it sets us up for an endless supply of ____-only subs every time someone gets annoying.

Maybe there's enough volume in Auctions these days that we can mimic the setup of the Goods sub:

Auctions (main sub)
Auctions>Digital Goods
Auctions>Computer Hardware

I think this would at least stave off the problem at hand for a while, and potentially encourage more activity overall.

No longer buying/selling Casascius coins. Beware scammers.

This is a good idea IMO. The domain sellers should put their domains in one single thread, instead of making 10 nearly identical threads for 10 different domains.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this as I often like to look at domains in the marketplace. It's currently a PITA to find threads with the search functions related to domains (moved redirects etc).
