Basically it goes on and on like that, and I don't think I've had a valid solution yet. I know most people will just say "Apple sucks" or something, but I know that folks have had some success mining with iMacs. I have access to a LOT of them, so I'm curious if I can get this working.
Any ideas?

Any ideas?

What version of OS X are you running?  I had the same problem, but it worked after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
