I was thinking.. I know TV adds are expensive but I can see it now. If the word got out to the masses, those that havnt heard of bitcoin or those that think its gone after the crash.
Is that even possible? theres tons of startups spending $ on BTC technology, surly one of them could afford a 60 second slot or something..
the only way we will ever see $10k is mass involvement, BTC must be a household name. The most effective way for that to happen has always been TV.
I may be way off base but gimme your thoughts either way.

Not a tv add but on the NBC show "The Blacklist" (Awesome show, btw) Reddington, who is one of the main characters had a computer guru to move a lot of money from one account to another with out being detected with a gun to his head, he had just seconds or a minute or so to move i believe 5 million dollars, he succeeded with just seconds remaining. When Reddington asked how he did it, the guru spoke really fast and the I really only caught 2 words, Ripple and Bitcoin.. So he moved the 5 million anonymously using ripple and bitcoin. Ill have to go back and really listen to how he did it.. but bitcoin is being mentioned in the media. In one of my wifes book that she just finished reading talked about bitcoin.
Also, in a few months, we will see a lot of adds regarding bitcoin.. The "Bitcoin" bowl will take place the day after Christmas.. So, you will see it before the end of the year, at least on ESPN...

I don't know if we will actually see a BTC commercial because that would require money behind it...and if it is just BTC in general, then no one is going to make money from the advertisement. That would have to come from like the Bitcoin Foundation or something like that.
I do think that we will start to see commercials that incorporate BTC or that they accept BTC...but they will be specific companies, like Overstock, etc.

Yes, I think first we will see "BTC accepted" in an ad. Maybe later some bitcoin payment providers may advertise with a more bitcoin centric ad.

I hear an entire episode of "The Good Wife" was devoted to BTC SO not sure we desperately need an ad to further the mainstreaming, it is happening as we speak

imagine that you don't watch tv 24-7.
Bitcoin was referenced on Law and Order SVU for a cab service (like lyft). Its mentioned multiple times on the TV show Almost Human for being the de-facto future internet currency.
So i think it happens more than you would give it credit for.
It was even mentioned by Krusty the Clown on the Simpsons Last season as he lost money on the Bitcoin markets.
I'm personally waiting for it to be made fun of in an episode of southpark.
edit: as for a tv commercial - I think that forward thinking companies realize that traditional mediums like tv and radio to advertise with are dying - they are embraced more so by the older generation and it would be a colossal waste of marketing resources to 'shotgun approach' market bitcoin on TV. I was thinking that paypal finally did it with their last string of commercials but apparently they're trying to steal the whole "people to people steelow" that bitcoin encompasses without any regard to referencing.
I'm curious, does a TV advertising reseller accept bitcoin payments? Could i pay bitcoin to be a commercial on nationally syndicated television?

I would find this to be more likely then someone adverting the use of bitcoin as no one specifically backs bitcoin and therefore no one person/entity directly benefits when bitcoin use goes up. If bitcoin reaches higher adoption levels and discounts are offered for paying in bitcoin then it could very well be a selling point when a company accepts bitcoin

+1 On the show "Justified" a man steals money from a US Marshall and a bunch of other people and coverts it into Bitcoin so it's untraceable.

This is fiction LOL, plus any transaction in fiat (that involves bank accounts) will likely be traceable to the person who stole the money. I do, however think that mentioning bitcoin in pop culture would likely be more effective of spreading awareness of bitcoin and it's uses then an "advertisement" as people tend to pay more attention to the content of TV shows and movies, why people tend to try to ignore commercials.

Yes, I think first we will see "BTC accepted" in an ad. Current overstock.com commercials already say "Bitcoin Accepted" in them. I've also seen Bitcoin on Conan, Parks & Recreation, The Good Wife, & The Simpsons to name a few.

They are definitely out there, you just have to pay attention. It would be nice to see it as the main topic of a stores ad to attract the customers attention.

no one person or entity benefits from specifically advertising bitcoin, so no i don't think so. you might see overstock, dell or some company put a bitcoin logo on an ad, though.

As soon as the marketing guys figure out they can put a QR in their advertisement and have people impulse buy instantly and that they will have the money in hand instantly... to the moon or at least a few more feet off the ground!

Broadcast TV is currently doing a death roll right now in developed countries so the effect of BTC in ads may be minimal.

Yeah, the bitcoin foundation is never going to do that. Or anything. Someone just needs to pony up and have a commercial made. It would do a LOT of good. Billboards would do a lot of good too. People need to subconsciously see and think bitcoin.
