It could just be a price spike for ripple. Litecoin went down 3% and ripple shot up 13%, but could come down again just as fast.

LTC has already been trashed... and has absorbed the next Gen ASICs...

IMHO ripple is better summed up by saying that ripple is nothing less and nothing more than digital version of ancient Hawala system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawala). I agree that it's not in "competition" againt BTC and other cryptocurrencies, but what it offers for the community is a decentralized bridge between different block chain ecosystems, which cannot communicate between themselves on block chain base because of unresolved math problems. That gives Ripple a chance to become "The Block Chain of Block Chains". Not "FEDcoin" but BIScoin, aka One Ring to Rule Them All .
