I fear that Reddit is intimating the launch of its own crypto currency altogether, on its own, separate blockchain. In other words, Reddit would become just another altcoin, orthogonal to every other coin as DogeCoin is to LiteCoin. I believe that this would be a serious misstep.

Ugh, I hope n not. Just implement bitcoin!

We just have to wait for them to get double spend attacks and deal with the mess: they will eventually switch back to Bitcoin..
Unless they comme up with some centralized scheme like a PoS coin (faking decentralization) that will also collapse but for a different reason: it will devoid of any incentive to hold and therefore will be worthless.

They should give each user a lil "bit" of bitcoin and then inject the raised 50 mil into bitcoin. Problem solved Wink

The author makes total sense and proposes a good solution, however something in my nature has a natural apprehension as soon as I read that the author is proposing using his system.  Again, not that I disagree with the point of the article (far from it), but something just doesn't feel right when I see a personal gain behind the article.

Maybe just me...

Many institutions are building their own cryptocurrencies which is just limited to the circulation of their inside institution or users. The value is worthless. Once the users got the crapcoins, dump them for bitcoin right away.

I don't use redit but wasn't there already some sort of tipping bot implemented? Or was that for dogecoin. I do a hope bitcoin tipping feature is implemented into many social networks / sites eventually, including this one.

There was a Reddit bitcoin tipbot, but I believe it was superseded by the changetip bot a few months ago, IIRC.

Not to get too sidetracked, but a quick look at the changetip website says they are available on Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr Github, Stocktwits, Google+, and YouTube.

Yes that's correct, though maybe more than a few.
