You are probably all wondering how I avoid posting hateful things so well. The truth is I haven't actually written 4772 posts here, it's more like 10000. I just write the post and click on "Home" instead of "Send".

I do that a lot too. So much time wasted.

Haha, there is time wasted for sure. But the time wouldn't come back if I pressed Send anyway.

When someone first comes to this forum, they will likely notice two things:
1) There aren't actually that many trolls.
2) The trolls that are here are extremely obvious.

It's that second point that usually concerns them. However, I would argue that this dynamic only exists because we don't ban people for trolling every once in a while. You see, on most forums, there appears to be a larger percentage of trolls, but they are dealt with often. I would argue that the percentage here is actually the same percentage as everywhere else. Because we don't easily ban trolls, they don't have a need to keep making new accounts. However, this is where our system excels: because the trolls don't have to keep making new accounts, they actually feel like they need to preserve their reputation. All of a sudden, getting banned here means something. Warnings go much further here than I've seen them go anywhere else. Now, because the trolls actually respect the moderation team, we can get them to post constructively most of the time unlike other places that just get rid of them. I believe that we're much stronger for it. Plus, we don't have to do as much work. Tongue

Here are the kinds of posts I have an issue with:

This one by mem:
Quote from: mem
Wow another e-tantrum directed at MTGOX from a dodgy user - big surprise.

Result will either be

A) MTGOX had legit delays, resolves it and the big sook gets his 26k
B) MTGOX ask for ID, Inaba refuses and posts another e-rant.

Seriously, grow the fuck up, You tell everyone to accept delays from BFL but you wont wait 3 weeks for them to resolve an international money transfer issue ?

EDIT: Oh well done for reading the MTGOX FAQ, that rant seems a bit stupid now doesnt it ?

That could have been expressed in a more tolerant way.

This one by the joint:

Do you like being stupid?

(Pretty much in response to the first one I listed.) Just pointless namecalling.

Or this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81939.msg902922#msg902922

Basically, these people might hold valid opinions. But to swear and namecall just leads this forum to people yelling at each other, and doesn't get to the core of issues. It reduces this forum from a place for intelligent free-thinkers (Bitcoin isn't for everyone) to a place for people to "troll", which in reality is people just bitching at other people.

Can we please put in a rule of "have some fucking respect"?

The forum moderation policy is something along the lines of "free speech at any cost", regardless of trolling and so forth. So, I doubt much is going to change there.

In many ways I completely agree with you. However, the proper course of action isn't to delete the posts. Have you tried messaging them? Instead of trying to convince/spamming the mods to do something about it, the proper thing to do would be to pressure the people who are doing it to stop doing it. A simple "Not cool man" with the post quoted would help these people realize that what they're doing is making us all look bad.

This is off-topic. I deleted it.

I don't have a problem with hostility as long as it comes with some real ideas.
