JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon: Bitcoin Will “Try to Eat Our Lunch”

NEW YORK — When the topic of bitcoin was raised before the Institute of International Finance (IIF) annual membership meeting in Washington, D.C. today, the world’s banking leaders bristled.

Bitcoin developers “are going to try and eat our lunch,” Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase said, as reported by Institutional Investor. “And that’s fine. That’s called competition, and we’ll be competing.”

"When people form nations, one of the first things they do is form a currency." - Jamie Dimon

Has there ever been a currency that formed a government?

I believe that's the outlier Dimon is playing politics in a, 'vote for me, I am the incumbent' sort of way - maybe some hubris.

Regulatory capture is not "competing", bitch.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

[Bitcoin developers] are going to try and eat our lunch,...  And that’s fine. That’s called competition, and we’ll be competing.

You have to be respectful in the face of new technologies like Bitcoin, but you don’t capitulate,...  You adjust and take advantage. Consumers feel better putting their money with a brand they recognize. We have capabilities and resources that are very powerful.

Are regulators and governments really going to foster Bitcoin over a long period of time? I think the answer is no.

You don't know, Jamie, and you're hoping another rabbit can be pulled out of the hat to save your dying establishment.
Read it and weep, Jamie.

Fortunately for Jamie, it would not be soon for bitcoin to create a real competition to JP Morgan and likes. First, its like with oil: as long as there is oil, nobody will produce electric cars and let them to dominate the market. Second, all major banks and companies rely on "mums and dads" investors, who are probably very far from investing into bitcoin.

True, but the coming reset is a result their own doing.
All we can do is continue to build the parallel system that will be the alternative to the banking collapse.
It's not a matter of if, but when.

"When people form nations, one of the first things they do is form a currency." - Jamie Dimon

Has there ever been a currency that formed a government?

That's actually a nice thought and one that bitcoin could actually achieve. It would be great for a revolution to be born out of bitcoin which I think it has the power to do.

How many nations are being formed these days?

Pretty sure most of the currencies have been formed after most nations existed...

Not that many. In 2011 South Sudan had declared independence.  This year or the year after we may see Kurdistan added.

Please, no.
Don't let them touch it - they will screw it up beyond recognition.
