Wow.Sounds like the client has bugs that cause people to lose money.hope the newest release fixes that.still it's not good losing 10BTC due to some silly bug in the client.

The keys are likely still readable if you find someone with the knowledge to pull them from the mangled db.  As long as you don't kill the program in the middle of its shutdown procedure there is no risk.  If you get impatient, you can mangle your wallet file.  However, this is moot now that the latest client shuts down in under a second on most systems.  That, plus I would never send money to a wallet without first making an encrypted backup.  If this all seems too complicated, use a web wallet so someone else can take care of these issues for you.
