I believe it is necessary from a marketing point of view. It pulls gamblers in to try your site. The competition is tough and every tiny edge counts. Most faucet on gambling sites only pays out when a player has low balance. With 0.0001 transaction fees and minimum withdraw limit of 0.001, you wouldn't loose much on the faucet anyway.

I also vote for the faucet. People will be able to play a little with the free money and if they like it, they will deposit more.
The benefits are much bigger than the estimated loses.

Yeah you are right it gives advantage when attracts players.
But 'real' players don't play with faucet, they deposit-play-win/lose-exit or like this.

My main concern is about database size. Sometimes I see people on PD like these stats:
Bets 70.000
Losses .....
Wagered 0.01 btc.

This is not good.

You do want people to try the site, right?
It would be tough for people to send bitcoins across to a new site without trying it out first.

Faucets are not at all necessary . But there are certain advantages. A lot of people love to test and play when they see a new site, and faucet allows them to. It also drives a  lot of traffic to the site.

Couldnt agree more.

I think you will find that the faucet directly translates to more players and a higher profit for a relatively small investment.

Youll need a good fair game however to keep the players.

I think faucets attract a certain kind of player you don't necessary want on your site. PrimeDice has a faucet and lowering the faucet brought out a high shit storm mainly by the begging kind that doesn't even deposit at all. JustDice had 0BTC bets to try out the site and they did just fine without.

edit: Rather than thinking about a faucet think about the reason why people would want to visit your site instead of a competitor's. Try to provide value for your customer.

I like the idea of a faucet, but honestly if you're making it so small I don't see it paying off...it won't keep people's interest.  If it's going to be 250 satoshis you've gotta make it every 2 mins. or something.

Is it a must? No, a number of sites are or were working well and successfully without a faucet.
But having a faucet will help you get more users, especially for a new site.

Think of it this way when someone has no bitcoin, it will keep them there and add traffic to your site.

faucet is a good start for newbie to play to gambling site

If the system provably fair,
then let's hope that someone will make more deposit into your site

If you want to prevent someone to abuse the faucet, just make a min wager to WD or something

nope, faucet only invites bot users, beggars, spammers, and some small decent players. thats why most dice sites remove their faucet after launching

Sort of.
In fact, Stunna has also been thinking about removing the faucet on Primedice due to overwhelming support emails about the faucet and chat spamming. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=208986.msg9172376#msg9172376

it attracts people and give something to people to start, but also attracts people only because of the faucet, that won't make bets with their own money.

it is your choice

Faucet definitely attracts more people. Some of them later deposit and play there. It also keeps the site much more active, and its basically free money for people, so they can easily build it up. I have built around 0.0001 faucet to 0.03 before, and it always feels great to do so.
