The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Thanks for reporting acquafredda, glad you enjoyed some chopping! It does indeed overheat the old laptops a bit to chop full speed. Enjoy your LOGs, and all public coins.

For those of you interested in the Skein hash function and in particular it's use as a proof of work algorithm, a few other coins should be mentioned in this thread.
Skeincoin is now a bit over a year old and has recently moved to an AuxPOW algorithm with Myriad-skein. The community has been very supportive of my questions and they have done great work building infrastructure. These coins both use SHA-256 in conjunction with Skein for their proof of work algorithm, as opposed to woodcoin which uses pure Skein. So, the algorithm is not identical but for those of you interested in improving efficiency of woodcutting or building standalone choppers (GPU or FPGA or ASIC) some of the work by the Skeincoin team will definitely be relevant. Skeincoin was cloned by the implementers of Nigeriacoin. Many other coins use Skein in conjunction with other hash functions, such as Quark (and its clones) and various X11 and X13 coins.
Woodcoin is still the only coin I know of that uses pure Skein for proof of work, please let us know if you know of any others.

For the record, I never hoped we would have such a nice CPU coin here. Pure skein is proving a great choice.

I came across an interesting article on elliptic curve digital signatures. http://infosecurity.ch/20100926/not-every-elliptic-curve-is-the-same-trough-on-ecc-security/He comes to a remarkable conclusion: I would like to state that Koblitz curves should be avoided, in any key size as they do not have enough warranty on crypto analytic activity and effectively they are:
Not part of NSA Suite-B cryptography selection Not part of ECC Brainpool selection Not part of ANSI X9.62 selection Not part of OpenPGP ECC extension selection Not part of Kerberos extension for ECC curve selection
In general, I am not a huge fan of his analysis method which is simply appeal to authority rather than actual discussion of the curves. However there may be something to it. It is worth pointing out that woodcoin is the only coin I know of which follows his recommendations. The only other coins I know of which do not use Koblitz curves (in particular secp256k1) are the ones built with CryptoNote. CryptoNote usees EdDSA which may have some advantages but according to the criteria of the linked article still fails to have been recommended by the various authorities.

Yeah well why is it us Linux users always have to compile our own fucking software and windows bitches only complain about not having everything done for them?
It's better to compile our own anyway. Runs cleaner, don't have to deal with dumbass ads and bullshit. But seriously, why doesn't this asshole try the fucking Windows builds that exist?

Not sure if its a flag issue when it was cooked or what

I tested the windows clients and saw a much smaller reduction of hashrate.. at the time I attributed it to the fact that it was running in a VM. Can some windows choppers please report on their hashrate and cpu type? Thanks
