I like this tweet from rogerkver

"Bitcoin is money over IP. (Internet Protocol)"

We should create a new term, MOIP: Money Over Internet Protocol

Let's spam it everywhere ( wikipedia ? ) so that it become a common word! Wink

Bitcoin is just the first implementation of the MOIP idea Grin

PS: Do you think that Currency Over Internet Protocol is better or worse?

I heard it stated this way from Tony at Bit-pay in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7BfjsCAZyQ

I thought it was an important enough concept that I should tweet it.
I like the term MOIP

I suspect Bit-Pay will see some VC funding soon.

We can also rename the "Alternate cryptocurrencies" section in "Other MOIPs" Cheesy

I really hope to read someday this question:
"Does your software/game support a MOIP?"

Is there someone that can write a good and general definition of MOIP?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MoIP

It seems that it's already used for "mobile communications over internet protocol"

COIP seems still free Smiley

Currency Over Internet Protocol

That should be renamed MCOIP, MOIP is more suited to Money over IP.

Howabout Payment Over Overlay Protocol?  Cheesy
[edit] Okay, that's a little lame. I guess there is merit to this idea. The internet needs a Universal payment system.

Someone draft an RFC and get it published - i'm deadly serious.

Get the IETF onto bitcoin and it'll never die.

If the someone has to be me i'll do it, i've worked with the IETF before.

Sounds great. For those that are new to the process, here are the guidelines that the IETF publishes for independent submissions: http://www.ietf.org/ietf-ftp/1id-guidelines.txt

"Money over IP" sounds super catchy! Much better than anything with word "crypto" inside.

+1 for MOIP

How about just referring to "Internet Money" so that everyone can understand what you're talking about? Jargon doesn't help to spread the news.

I came up with this idea in November after the Prague conference.  The idea is that major banks and corporations would implement something that's an international standard, whereas they won't implement something seen as being only in hackerspace.

Its alot of work, but I'm willing to contribute what I can.

I suspect Bit-Pay will see some VC funding soon.

Hope not. Hope Bit-Pay will be able to grow on its own.

We are going alone as far as we can, but at some point we will hit a wall.  You cannot possibly compete with a company like Square who has $100,000,000 of investors money to spend, and those investors are out there every day talking up the company and promoting it.

Have you considered utilizing GLBSE to obtain funds?

It is such a great name that ...

there is already a company using it.

In fact, that's what a bitcoin exchange in Brazil uses for customers buying bitcoins:
