The thread title is misleading, for I thought this was a thread about eating at the Y.

Anyone else?

Ive had a fresh water Guppy Culture for about 2 years, they where in a 10 gallon aquarium and they bred every so often population always kept between 10 - 20, mothers eat hatchlings.

Recently I recieved a 50 gallon aquarium and I hope the population will grow to about 50 - 60

With guppies, just use the hatchery net you can buy at Wal_mart. Ups survival of the fry a whole lot!

Love eating fish, love raising fish, love eating at the Y. Smiley

I currently have a 55gal setup with cichlids.  If you live in the US, and don't want to spend an arm and a leg getting cichlids, then I recommend catching small (or large, your choice) sunfish.  Sunfish are *very* similar to cichlid in attitude, but are less picky about eating. Smiley  Sunfish just aren't as "pretty".   With sunfish, you can toss just about anything that you find creepin' and crawlin' in your basement that you find icky, and the sunfish (when it gets big enough) will love them all equally. Cheesy

I don't particularly like catching, looking at, or eating fish but I've seriously considered setting up a backyard aquaponics system as part of an attempt at permaculture.

So far my research has been that it's not particularly economical.
