Agreed! Armory is the most secure but for a newbie i would not recommend it took me a while to understand it lota options. Either use blockchain but if you wanna use the offline once use multibit, bitcoin core is good too but can't download the whole blockchain. |

you should go with desktop wallet
and second option about choice of desktop wallet
as you said that you don't want to download big bitcoin blockchain then you should give a try to multibit
you will able to use it within few minutes

then i found out about SPV, and i think both Multibit and Electrum uses that. can anyone tell me how much does each of these two take up space on me hard drive? and also which one do you suggest
I am using Electrum, and the whole data directory (consisting of my wallet file and the blockchain header file) on my pc is only 26MB large. I prefer Electrum over Multibit because it is deterministic. |

As others have mentioned, I'd recommend an online wallet for everyday purchases, but for long term storage, cold storage is the way to go. I'd recommended an encrypted paper wallet or a Verso card.

Bitcoin core is a great wallet. Its major pros IMO are the coin control function and that you don't need to trust any third party unlike using thin clients. The only downside is that you need to keep a copy of full blockchain data on your machine. For comparison of different wallets, you can take a look at https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet |
