Web wallets are easy to use like coinbase.. its perfect for newbie people and its super fast

But it isn't secure as we have no access to private keys. I would go for Blockchain.info wallet rather coinbase and such wallets.

hello i'm also new to crypto and decide to download bitcoin core wallet. I think it will take a life to synchronize, its already syncing 1 day.
I also got a question, if someone send me btc to my wallet that it isn't fully sync, will i get them afterwards?

Blockchain.info is great, doesn't get any faster and lightweight, but it doesn't feel as "secure for some reason". It may be placebo effect or something, but I feel more secure with software. Must be my OCD kicking ...

I use bitcoin-qt at home too.  It does take a while to sync up once you start it up because it has to download the entire blockchain first.  It took mine about 4.5 days to complete the sync over a 50+ Mb connection. Also, here's a little tip I'll pass on that I just learned a few days ago.  If you want to run a full Bitcoin node using the bitcoin-qt client, you need to allow traffic (port forward) port 8333 to your computer running the bitcoin-qt client.  This will allow it to verify transactions on the network since it can now send outbound traffic as well.

To answer your question, yes, if someone sends you BTC now to the bitcoin address associated with your bitcoin-qt wallet, the funds should be available once the sync completes.

It feels more secure to me than a desktop wallet cos I have 2-factor and second password on it, but some people are apprehensive about keeping their coins online.

This depends on your setup and whether you are running a hardware firewall, a software firewall, or both.  In my case, I am behind a hardware firewall, but also have the software firewall (Mac OS X) turned on. I just had to allow traffic to come in port 8333 at the hardware firewall and port forward it to port 8333 on my iMac, where the bitcoin-qt client is running.

Yeah, the funds are available. The transaction has already been completed; at that point, you just haven't refreshed your wallet to have it recorded.

get several wallets and try them out. you can send satoshis to yourself if you want. from there you can see which wallets you like using.

what are your needs? online wallets are convenient for using btc out in real world, but I would never trust any more than about 0.5 btc to any one of them. online wallets are the least secure.

desktop wallets are safer, but paper wallets are the safest.

I like to use armory because of thier "watch-only" cold storage, but I also use multibit and I have a bitcoin-q client running to support the network, but I almost never use it for btc moving or storage.

I use the blockchain wallet as my to-go hot wallet.

your needs will be different than mine, so you must explore your options and make your own decisions.

Also, encrypt everything.

now i want to choose from the list but i am a little confused

Q1: should i choose desktop or web wallet?

Q2: from desktop wallets which one to choose?
i realized bitcoin core uses the full node which needs more than 20 GB and growing so i don't want that. and also armory

then i found out about SPV, and i think both Multibit and Electrum uses that. can anyone tell me how much does each of these two take up space on me hard drive? and also which one do you suggest

As i Use Online Wallet Coinbase as when i started BTC i dont knw that when we format PC we need to backup the wallet.. so without backup i format so just lost 5$ that time so since than im just using Coinbase... So as from my end i say use online wallet like Blockchian,Coinbase,Igot etc....

i prefer using desktop wallets, only because I know if shit hits the fan I can upload the dat file.

not sure on online wallets work, since its store elsewhere and if their servers fail or something catastrophic who knows how to recover.

I prefer to wear blockchain.info, more Easily, more secure, and more familiar GUI, when you transfer a bitcoin of blockchain.info to bitcoin address, did not take long, maybe only About a 10-30 minute bitcoin wallet you will get to the destination you ...

i think any online wallet is the best choice for anyone starting out, since they dont have to wait the blocks to be catched up.

most people panic when they dont see their coins, but just keep in mind the miner is finding the coin and theres a fee for it.

I am using multibit since the start and our partnership is going well. I think it's just not about the wallet, it has also to do with the users profile.
