Google Search Study Hints at 'Shady Truth' of Bitcoin Users

http://www.coindesk.com/google-search-study-hints-shady-truth-bitcoin-users/

Our research finds that two Google search terms – related to computer programming enthusiasts and possible illegal activity (“Silk Road”) – are statistically related to search interest in bitcoin.

That's not really surprising, is it? "Silk road" and "bitcoin" ARE related. But just because people are interested in the story about SR does not mean much about bitcoin users. I think the shady truth is that some people do not know how to interpret data.

Nonetheless, a variety of users – such as law enforcement, journalists, and even academics like me – also type in such terms as Silk Road or bitcoin with no intent of illegal activity.

But the result is 'Shady' Bitcoin users.  Grin

Exactly. This isn't surprising at all. Silk Road was all over the news at one point earlier this year (or was it late last?) and gave bitcoin a lot of publicity so people will have done some research out of intrigue.

I also searched for "Silk Road" on google back when I started with bitcoin, because I don't know what it is, not because I want to buy anything form it.

The news coverage of Silk Road was what initially got me interested in bitcoin. I did lots of googling for bitcoin / silk road  Grin.

Google "University of Kentucky" with "Diploma Mill" and see if they catch on.
