Re: is it possible to move my appdata folder to another hard drive?

i wouldn't have a clue where to start. maybe i should buy another hard drive. 

1. Backup your wallet.dat.
2. Copy your Bitcoin folder somewhere else.
3. Start bitcoin core with -choosedatadir=1, and set it to the directory where you copied your Bitcoin folder to.
4. Wait for bitcoin core to reindex.
5. Restart core to see if anything went wrong just in case.
6. Done. You can delete the old files but it's always recommended to keep at least 1 copy of your data files in case of corruption (so you don't need to resync).

About #3. To do this on windows, use the run window (win+r shortcut) and enter

Change the Xs to where bitcoin-qt.exe is located.
or just view the properties of bitcoin-qt shortcut and add -choosedatadir=1 in the target box. But remember to remove it later or it'll ask you to choose datadir every time you open bitcoin-qt using that shortcut.

i don't know.  probably? 

okay, so now i know where unobtanium.conf file goes, but i still don't know what it is.  do i just make a blank text file and save it as unobtanium.conf?  if so, what exactly do i need put as text?  is there something i can copy paste?

can you see how terrible this all is for an "average" user of crypto?  I mean, I grew up with computers, I work for a leading tech company, on the internet all day every day...muggles think i'm some tech whiz just for using crypto, so if someone like me is having a hard time figuring this out, then we're completely fucked for "mass" adoption.  People are always like "we need to tell our friends and family to get in on this" but this whole shit show is a perfect example of why I am not "spreading the good word," so to speak.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Crypto generally is in no way ready for prime time use or adoption. Yes, you can make it work, but for the "average Joe" right now I just don't see it.

Realistically android/i device and other mobile wallets are much easier to understand and adopt.

Providing a .conf file ready to download with short explanation where to put it on the website maybe no problem?

Usually the Unobtanium wallet syncs up without any problems.  If it doesn't, you may be able to solve the problem by adding nodes to your Unobtanium.conf file. While it's not very difficult if you know the trick, a lot of people don't know the trick. Here's how to do it.


First, grab a list of 0.10 client peers from the Chainz explorer and put them into a sample Unobtanium.conf file.

Or alternatively, you can download a pre-made Unobtanium.conf file from Unobtanium.uno.  Choose whether you want the .conf (text) or .zip file, and download it to your desktop.

Edit this file with any text editor, taking care that it is saved as a .conf file, and not renamed to a .txt file.
Change the Username and Password. The rest you can leave as it is.

note: because by default Windows hides file extensions, I recommend taking a moment to make a quick change to the Windows File Explorer settings. See the below image for instructions: 


Before proceeding, close your Uno wallet client.

Now we have to put the Unobtanium.conf file in the Unobtanium roaming data folder, where the wallet will find it.  Here's how to do that:

In MS Windows, press Windows+R to bring up the Run menu.  Type in %AppData% and then click/press Ok.  Like This....



A file folder will open.  Scroll down until you see the Unobanium folder, and then click on it.  You should now see the contents of this folder, including your wallet.dat file. Don't delete anything in this folder.

Now find your Unobtanium.conf file on your desktop, and drag it into this folder.

Restart your wallet.

You're good to go.

This is for Windows. Sadly, I can't tell you how to do this on Mac or Linuxs. Perhaps someone else will step up and write it. You can use the same Unobtanium.conf file for Win/Mac/Linux.

Hello Uno Community,

My UNO wallet doesn't sync. It's stuck at "Synchrorizing with network...80 weeks behind". I was recommended the ethereum wallet and installed it. I was able to receive funds to the ethereum wallet but tried twice to send funds and it doesn't work because etherum is "only for watching" and not sending. I have received other advice about an "add on add" to enter into the console. I did that and it also didn't work. I received advice  about right clicking on the "unobtanium.conf" file, and copying and pasting a long list of "add on adds" into note pad, saving that, then turning off unobtanium and starting it up again. I did that too and there was no effect. I like this coin but have had continual problems with the wallet which I am unable to sync. What's more, the kindly advice I have received this far does not solve the problem. So, I'll ask again: is there anyone who knows how to get an UNO Storage Vault to sync? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

For the newbies to get started and 100% safely handle Unobtanium Crypto:

1: go to unobtanium.uno or btctalk (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527500.0) and download latest wallet to your computer

2: install the wallet

3: open the wallet while disconnected from the internet.

4: Go to "actions" -> "encrypt vault" and set a password. (see picture) Never forget this password. Wallet will close after that.

5: open wallet again. Go to "actions" -> "backup vault" (picture) and safe wallet-file to your computer.



6: copy backed-up wallet-file to an external drive (usb-stick)

now that you have encrypted and backed up your vault you are ready to receive coins


the original wallet-file can be found at this path (windows-users):
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Unobtanium

this folder is hidden by default. Go to 'view' -> 'folder options' -> 'show hidden folders' to make visible
for extra security remove wallet.dat when not used to an encrypted filecontainer, external drive or protected winrar-folder.

Always keep a backup of your vault at an external drive in case your harddrive dies an unexpected death. This way you can not loose your coins.

by following these steps you can store your Unobtanium very safely on your local devices.
This method is much safer than having the coins on an exchange which can get hacked or make the runner with your coins.
Also keep in mind that your browser is very easy to attack by hackers via extensions and other malware. A hacker will have a much harder time stealing coins from an offline-storage at your house than he will have for stealing your login-credentials for the exchange and your email from your browser.
Always store your coins on your local devices. Exchanges are no banks to store your coins! 


Remember to make new backup of your vault from time to time after sending coins. Never delete a wallet-file. Never forget your password. Always keep backups of your wallet on different harddrives/usb-sticks.

alternative:
For secure longterm offline coldstorage you can also boot your system from a linux or windows live-cd while disconnected from the net and generate a paperwallet which you can print out to store your Unobtanium on.

This is best practice and most secure.

I have the same problem but mine says 2 days instead of 80 weeks. It got so close that I was sure it was almost complete but it stuck there. If you can find out what is the reason behind this or at least learn how to overcome this would you be kind enough let us know why or at least how you overcome this so we could do the same thing for our wallets?

I recently posted that my coins were stuck because my wallet didn't sync. The problem was a tough one and called for drastic action. It required a lot of faith on my part, but I placed my trust in Falling Knife and my problems are now over.
