I noticed that 2 long-term and decent users are missing.
1) DeathAndTaxes is inactive since 7 October while his last post is from 29 August;
2) BurtW is inactive since 14 October while his last post is from 11 October.

Both users were pretty active and being offline for 1 month seems to me a bit strange. Anyone knows anything?

Not sure about the first user , Never seen him my self .
for BurtW , theymos announced that the user got arrested , more informations can be found here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=934268.0

His daughter and wife made this website to get donations : http://www.burtw.com/
Theymos also said :  "though I'm a little suspicious that the site might be fake."

~ Madness.

Would be good if we could find out if the site was real or not Tongue I am sure a few members of the bitcoin community could get around the idea of helping out.

Yep It would be really good , for me I don't think that a 8 years old little girl talks like that but in the same time the website contains some personal pictures of the girl with her father ... so that makes me asks my self , unless he posted those pictures in Social media websites then I guess that website is so real .

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

We need to find out if the website is real, I'm sure that if it is real, members from the community would donate to him. Could someone reverse search those pictures on google to see if they were posted on social media? Because if they weren't, the website could be real.

Maybe someone can try contacting BurtW himself and ask? He ran a consulting company DeadlineSpecialists.com for over a decade. The site is now down but there still are cached pages with his phone number.

Perhaps it was related to this:

18 U.S.C. § 1960 The Grand Jury charges that:
COUNT 1 (Operation of Unlicensed Money Transmitting Business)
From at least in or around April of 2013, through October 6, 2014, in the District of Colorado, the defendant,
BURTON WAGNER,

I wouldn't be surprised if BurtW's absence is related to this. However it would not explain D&T's absence. Even stranger is the fact that BurtW as logged in since his arrest but did not make any posts

Sorry to hear that. I hope BurtW will join us again in the near future. Man, fuck this justice system. Yesterday I saw a man in the news who passed 40 years in the US jail now proven innocent.

I don't know the details of it, but IIRC he borrowed some bitcoin from another user with his "Phinnaeus Gage" account acting as collateral.

Oh, is the loan still in progress? I assume so as none of the accounts have negative trust on them for not repaying the loan.

Wow, that must suck, a lot.
I read somewhere that gleb was his brother, but why did he use another account?
Edit:didn't see the above posts. Well I hope to see him pay back. What was the of the loan? He hasn't been back yet so I suppose it's large.

It wasn't that large. In fact, I just made a payment and sent him a PM stating such prior to the recent news being released. BTW, it was my idea to offer up PG as collateral to protect his interest, for I'm pretty sure none would've been needed because none was discussed prior to my offer.

The www.burtw.com web site is real.  It was put up by my wife (JeanW on here now).  To answer some questions posted above:  I traded on localbitcoins.com.  The prosecutor in the case claims I needed a business money transmittal license to do that.  Instead of just notifying me that they though I might need a license they have charged me with a felony which could mean up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Because I had to hire TWO law firms, one for the criminal case and another one for the civil forfeiture case, so far, defending myself against the charge of not having a license in order to trade on localbitcoins has cost me almost $200,000.  This is a large chunk of our retirement fund and our daughters college fund.  This does not count the property (Bitcoins, cash, etc.) I may have to forfeit in civil forfeiture.

My family could really use your help so if you are in a giving mood please donate Bitcoins or that fiat stuff at www.BurtW.com

A bit more information can be found there.

Thanks!

PS:  http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/30/politics/federal-agents-charged-with-stealing-bitcoin/index.html

Made me laugh and I have not laughed for a long time.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

I don't get it. Why would we contribute to someone who a) did illegal things, b) made money from those illegal things, c) is now being punished for those illegal things, am I missing something?

Because the law is wrong and completely stupid?

Yeah after reading some more on what they're claiming, it does seem a bit stupid. There's no precedence, they're almost making it up and trying to backdate it.
