Some background:
CEO of GAW miners went on a public rant trying to promote his new venture saying that they had partnerships with big companies like Target, Amazon, and Walmart... This was followed by a bounch of other such statements.

Coinfire covered this, stating the obvious. That he was outright lying.

Here's an archived version of a catched page containing the article:
https://archive.today/gCnQW

Why a catched version? Hours after the article went public, It caused a lot of people to be furious. Coinfire was hacked and people started thinking it was GAW that hacked into the website.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2n71hm/coinfire_hacked/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2n7c9r/coinfire_publishes_article_with_details_about_gaw/

Apparently "GAWCEO" didn't really do much to defend his company against those accusations. He went on to say that the alexa rank of coinfire wasn't important enough for them to care about it. But guess what, the hashtalk post where he said that is now down as well.

Read the comments in those two posts. There's a good chance they'll make you want to laugh at GAW and Josh. People have started realising what's going on, and since Paycoin was supposed to be the next big thing, it's certainly not off to a good start. Not to mention all those marketing efforts to overhype it being thrown to the dumpster.

What's after this? Do you think this is a situation the scheme GAW has built can survive? Or they done fucked up for good?

They forced their hundreds of thousands of user's accounts into enabling 2fa, without being able to disable it, before they can withdraw ANY bitcoin. Plus, they pushed their "ICO" back 2 weeks so they can rake more free profits from people pointing their hashlets at "HashPoint" pool AKA store credit to buy this magical $20 coin with for $4. So, they done goofed to say the least.

I originally posted this in the speculation section, a mod decided to move it here. The other posts you mention are about slightly different topics anyway.

I don't see any proof of him sayin "he had partnerships" in the article or anywhere else. Where is this outright lie you're talking about?
As for the hack, I don't support it, but I doubt it was done by GAW employees. You don't need to be smarter than the average to know that such things bring more publicity to the victim, not the attacker.
Staging this would be a smart move by coinfire. A lot of people will hear about them after they hype it as an attempt to shutdown free media.

So then he essentially lied when he posted it on HT that you will be able to make purchases with paycoin at target, walmart, and amazon.  He said it on his official announcement when it was called hashcoin.

It doesn't mean that he already had established partnerships. The word will is also used to express opinion or promise. Wink

He never said any of those names, just that there where large retailers involved. And about the ICO, it has always been so that only after ICO 2 hashpoints would be able to be converted to Paycoins. They just gave everybody another 2 weeks of hashpoins mining instead of waiting for 2 weeks and only be able to mine BTC.

Please read the articles again and show us these facts:

http://gawminers.eu/news/hashbase-visa-hashcoin-prelude/
HashBase will allow you to mine a coin, search for a product, see search results from Target/Walmart/Amazon/Macy’s, and buy on the spot. A few days later, the product shows up at your door.

This article says "will allow you" which implies he strongly believes that it will happen, not that it has already.

https://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20141101202832-161480692-new-digital-currency-is-poised-to-eclipse-bitcoin
Wal-Mart, Amazon and Target are apparently buying it up in bargaining, while the CEO makes the case that his devoted “customers deserve the same participation,” so for once, the playing field has been leveled for small investors and loyal customers.

These 2 articles are basically the same and both include the quoted sentence, which implies the companies are interested in his product.

I'm still waiting to see any quote of him saying what OP has repeated after the Coinfire's article, which is "they had partnerships with big companies like Target, Amazon, and Walmart...".

I'm still waiting to see any quote of him saying what OP has repeated after the Coinfire's article, which is "they had partnerships with big companies like Target, Amazon, and Walmart...".

Here's some direct quotes from the virtual hashking himself:

Quote
We're working on getting hashlets in to mainstream stores. It wont be long before you'll walk in to target and see hashlets. It won't long before you go on walmart.com. We're acting(?) with the largest retailers in the country.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVXPFVl0r0M#t=22044

Quote
Our partners got upset that I released their names ahead of time, so now I have to mind my P's and Q

https://hashtalk.org/topic/16853/all-is-well-in-the-land

Quote
I have seen a few posts asking about our coin being accepted at larger merchants. Everything is still on track. I have had to change some of my wording as to not create issues with the MNDAs we have in place.

Short summary:
We said a few things before our partners were ready for folks to hear it.

https://hashtalk.org/topic/17485/large-merchants

It's funny how there were absolutely zero fanboys who doubted the amazon/target/walmart partnerships before the coinfire article was published.

Now they've all either taken the stance that coinfires reporting is inaccurate or that josh never directly mentioned a partnership. The amount of mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance people are willing to go through to whitewash this is astounding.

No digital or crypto-coin has ever launched with global partners and a 250 million dollar backing, nor with a partnership with e-commerce giants, Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target lined up, but “Hashcoin” will.

Pretty sure that right there is saying they have partnerships with them.

Quite funny the speculation thread that also had this stated in has since been deleted.  Link is at end of article.

It says that "hashcoin will", so it's his hope or expectation, maybe even a promise. It still doesn not mean they "had established partnerships". The same thing could be said about all his other quotes I've seen so far. Yes, he implies he wants to contact these companies and believes in the success of his product, but doesn't say any contracts or partnerships were signed.

Did you read my quotes or are you just ignoring them because it's impossible to deny that josh himself confirmed the "partnerships"?

The same thing could be said about all his other quotes I've seen so far. Yes, he implies he wants to contact these companies and believes in the success of his product, but doesn't say any contracts or partnerships were signed.

"nor with a partnership with e-commerce giants, Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target lined up, but “Hashcoin” will."  That sentence right there says these partnerships have been established.  The "but "hashcoin" will" is what solidifies that they have these partnerships.  The statement would need a could, might, maybe, or potentially to make it mean that is speculation.  If I said I will be at the party that mean I will be at the party.  Now if I said I might be at the party that means that I may or may not make it to the party.
