Posted a poll for opinions on this in the mining section, original thread here:

Cloud mining is actually a service, much like buying shares in a mining company has very little to do with the actual mining process itself. This means that currently all cloud mining discussion should be going to the service discussion board. However the distinction is blurred due to the crossover between pooled mining services, hosted mining by manufacturers and so on. Note that I think cloud mining is a complete waste of money, but that is the sort of debate that is best relegated to such a section and my opinion will not change the fact that the number of these services and people who subscribe to them is increasing and there seems to be a need for a dedicated place to discuss them.

Should there be a dedicated subsection in the mining section? Feel free to discuss pros/cons on this thread as well.

EDIT: Cloud mining by itself does not encompass all the crossover discussion required, so as an updated proposal I'd suggest "mining services".

Click the quote above to vote in the associated poll.

I think cloud mining defiantly belongs somewhere in the mining section as cloud mining is a way people can mine bitcoin.

The fact that most cloud mining services only allow users to mine via their own pool would mean that the majority of cloud mining threads would belong in the "pools" subsection in mining, although many would also belong in the "speculation" subsection as many of them are speculating that cloud mining services are ponzis/scams.

I am not sure how many cloud mining services there are out there, nor am I sure how many threads relating to cloud mining are created/are active, so I am not sure if it's own subforum section would be warranted.

IMHO, anything where you can say: "contact support" to someone having problems should be in the service section, as you are indeed using a service with its own support system in place. The support might be bad, but thats not the point.

The fact that most cloud mining services only allow users to mine via their own pool would mean that the majority of cloud mining threads would belong in the "pools" subsection in mining,

I disagree because if someone has no choice over the pool, the pool does matter little and can not be meaningfull discussed.

although many would also belong in the "speculation" subsection as many of them are speculating that cloud mining services are ponzis/scams.

There is a mining speculation section that deals with the profitability of anything related to mining. "Is this cloud mining profitable" should belong there as well.

I am not sure how many cloud mining services there are out there, nor am I sure how many threads relating to cloud mining are created/are active, so I am not sure if it's own subforum section would be warranted.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

The majority of "cloud mining" companies dont mine a satoshi, they are just ponzi's.

You wish. Have a look at the list Ive been compiling:

Sorry, misread. Of course the reason most of them dont let you select a pool is because they dont have the hashrate and so its not mining. They pay out BTC but its just like the previous generation of "arbtitrage' scams.

I think there aren't enough cloud mining providers. Maybe 5-10 or so. Also only few cloud mining providers can proof their evidence.

It doesn't need to be proofed. It's a true fact! The most companies can't show pictures of their farms etc.

If you followed the link I provided, you wouldnt need to ask that question.
A question which, BTW,  is as pointless as asking "can you prove unicorns dont exist?".

Here I posted the logic, why cloud mining requires its own sub-section under mining forum.

-snip-

I think cloud mining requires its own sub-section under mining. From the logic you are categorizing cloud mining as a service, using the same logic we can say pools are service too. But, pools do have own sub-section. So cloud mining should have the same.

yes, simply because it falls under both digital goods(cloud mining accounts) and services(cloud mining companies), which makes searching difficult.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

There have been threads asking to create a separate section for pyramids/ponzis in Gambling for a while too.

Of course, none of these mining scams actually admit to being a ponzi, so who is going to decide to move their threads to that section?

If questionable investments can be moved from other sections to Gambling, is it too much to ask to have them moved into their own section in Gambling?

Instead of Cloud Mining, maybe something a bit more general like Mining Services, so it could include hosting services and stuff like that.

I agree with this.
This was certainly an option miningbuddy and I had discussed previously and I agree would encompass more useful stuff than just the ponzi pyramid scams that are cloud mining.

Why would you want to mix useful stuff with the ponzi's? Id hate running a legitimate hosting service and see my thread drown in a sea of ponzi pushing. Of course, the same applies to legitimate mining companies, but thats unavoidable because you cant identify them positively.

I think, instead of Cloud Mining, if we have Mining Services, then Pools are to be included under it as well.
