I am suprised to see Japanese included here. I do admire Japanese culture, also aware of its history and current power. Only one thing that bothers me, how they see the non-japanese. Correct me if I am wrong, much to the Jews calling others Gentiles or Goyim, or Kaffir by the fundamentalist muslims, many people I have chanced upon says that as a tourist, you are totally ok with them. As a worker or immigrant to Japan, you are treated differently. Can someone clarify that?

but, I think you are almost right.
If you are the tourist, you are totally okay and you will be treated well in Japan.
But, if you want to have work in Japan, you will face to the difficulty.
Since all of activity can be completed only using Japanese, many of Japanese afraid to use other/foreign language even if it is English.
In terms of religion, many of Japanese believes they do not belong particular religion, but, actually, we have many religious beliefs and customs which come from "Buddhism" and ”Shintoism”
Unfortunately, many of Japanese do not aware of this, some of Japanese has bias on other religions.
For the race, even if Tokyo, you may suffer from bias.
In my opinion, Japanese people have less experience among other country peoples.
We need to be exposed more foreign countries, race, and religion.
