Post your favourite Satoshi quote here.  It can be a forum post, whitepaper, email, or any other verified Satoshi quote.  Please add a link to the reference / source.

My favourite is:

I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume." - Satoshi

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

This is the best in my opinion...

It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context.  WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is headed towards us.

I've always liked the way this one makes it clear that consolidation in the mining industry was the plan from the beginning:

I anticipate there will never be more than 100K nodes, probably less.  It will reach an equilibrium where it's not worth it for more nodes to join in.  The rest will be lightweight clients, which could be millions.

At equilibrium size, many nodes will be server farms with one or two network nodes that feed the rest of the farm over a LAN.

This one echos the same sentiment:

The current system where every user is a network node is not the intended configuration for large scale.  That would be like every Usenet user runs their own NNTP server.  The design supports letting users just be users.  The more burden it is to run a node, the fewer nodes there will be.  Those few nodes will be big server farms.  The rest will be client nodes that only do transactions and don't generate.

But I think one of my all time favorites is:

If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yeh, I like that one too. Think I saw someone had that in their signature. I haven't read much of Satoshi's writings, but I keep meaning to go though and read his old posts to get a better picture.

I recall reading this back when I was just a lurker.

How long have you been working on this design Satoshi?  It seems very well thought out, not the kind of thing you just sit down and code up without doing a lot of brainstorming and discussion on it first.  Everyone has the obvious questions looking for holes in it but it is holding up well Smiley
Since 2007.  At some point I became convinced there was a way to do this without any trust required at all and couldn't resist to keep thinking about it.  Much more of the work was designing than coding.

It's stuck with me ever since.

I personally like the one in your signature about Bitcoin's success in 20 years (the number of transactions).

However I think that these kinds of threads and people worshiping satoshi so much that they have favorite quotes of his are bad for bitcoin in general. I don't think that satoshi wanted to be worshiped in this way. Also if his identity ever is discovered then anything he says or does could potentially affect bitcoin

mmmm… I agree with some of the comments:
If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

What about the line from the end of his whitepaper where he says this is only a proof of concept and anyone dumb enough to invest money in it deserves to lose it all?

Satoshi on porn is classic

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

I don't remember exactly the words, but his opinion about "phase in" the change of block size, so that when the change comes, the majority of the nodes have already reached a consensus

This approach can give the users enough time to react to a HARD FORK, which is an "extinct level" event as Jeff Garzik described it  Grin

lmao I quite like that one, but it's also very true about the recurring bill thing, anyone who's dealing in Bitcoin now has to politely send an invoice to you that you need to pay rather than just steal the money directly from your bank account, great news for MMORPG players and the like as well as porn downloaders Tongue
