Unfortunately it's beginning to look like this might be a security design flaw on the blockchain.info side of things.  At least according to this recent CoinDesk article.

http://www.coindesk.com/hacker-returns-225-btc-taken-blockchain-wallets/

That was really kind of him to return the funds .It also saves the people from other hackers.
Here is the entire thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=581411

If you don't have a lot of bitcoins in your wallet, then moving it to cold storage would be useless, as to spend you will have to bring it back.
But with any amount >5BTC it is always adviced to move the funds to cold storage.

thats just a good habit as well.

i mean in general, its something that most should practice. I myself, started doing this, even if its .1 btc so i can put my mind at ease. Its just unfortunate for most who get introduced to bitcoin, that online wallets are convenient so they think its all good.

Sorry about what happened to you Sad.  After hearing about these problems with blockchain.......would it be safer to move >5 bitcoins to the localbitcoins wallet.  I haven't heard many problems there. Could that actually be safer?

The best solution for storing btc would be a wallet on your PC,my suggestion is to use electrum or multibit wallet. Smiley

No moving it to localbitcoin online wallet would not be safer at all, it's worse.
Not only have these been hacked in the past your handing over the security of your coins to them.
Now im not familar with localbitcoins wallet but i know it would never be as safe as ofline storage with 0.05 btc in hot wallet for daily use.

It really depends on how well someone is able to secure their computer (and keep their private keys safe).

I think the future of bitcoin will likely involve many/most people storing their bitcoin on third party services as many people are not capable of protecting their private keys in ways that companies like LBC and coinbase can

im sure you can recover from .8 bitcoin.

not that i sympathize for you, but theres people who got scammed for much more. And just consider this as a expensive lesson to learn.

i think if anyone gets scammed, you cant really find the person unless you dox them really good.

but after the coins are gone, its just gone. not much we can or anyone do about it besides just preventing the even happening again in the future.

have you tried doxing him?

some people charge a small fee, and look up all personal info about this persona and more details to use that for possible law suit etc.
