Basically I decided to sell my GPUs. its not worth the hassle anymore mining.

The rigs are noisy.
They require maintenance because they keep crashing.
Sometimes they require re-installs etc.
Every hour that you use them, increases the chances of the fans failing or components burning out.
Even if the GPUs are under warranty, the shipping to manufacture is not free either.

I believe in the future of Bitcoin but I don't believe mining these algos will ever be as profitable as they were.

Right now is the perfect time to sell because of Christmas. On eBay the prices went up slighly for GPUs. So its best to sell on eBay or on Craigslist/Kijiji.

Nope.  Not selling a single GPU / rig.  There will be another *boom* one of these days.

History tends to repeat itself.  I'll be ready this time  Wink

I'm also holding on to some, but by the time that happens (if..) our top end GPUs might not be worth it anymore.

The only reason why mining with GPU was profitable last year was because of LTC. Since LTC was based on Scrypt which was GPU only and it had a huge market cap.

What GPU coin right now has a market cap as large as LTC? Nothing. Closest is DRK.

Only way GPU mining will be profitable again is if some coin with a market cap of 500 Million comes out which is GPU only.

Never selling my GPU's due to the fact of newer coins coming out and only being able to use GPU and asic protected so ill pass on that my GPUS come in handy as where asic technology fails to mine x13 x15 and other algos

I am using my r9 290 rigs for daul sli card gamer machines for my kids and myself. If something goes wild again that they can mine I can kick them into mining it.

Just sell half of the GPU farms, keep the other half for mining for fun and wait for good times...

Opportunity cost bro.

DJM and Wolf use custom kernels, their experiences have absolutely no relationship to people using public kernels.

Are any of you actually making more then electricity costs?

I loved GPU mining but I sold all mine long ago at this point.

Nope, algos haven't been profitable since Wolf started selling custom kernels to big miners and people decided to turn them into space heaters. If you want to continue mining it looks like nvidia maxwell is the only place to go as there are continued hashrate and efficiency improvements being done over there. The architecture is innately more power efficient then AMD stuff right now too.

And I agree as well. I'm definitely missing GPU mining. It was all around fun, but you can't have thousands of dollars worth of gear sitting around that don't generate more then a couple cents a day if and when they're profitable.

Yes exactly correct.

Even if mining does become profitable you can always start buying back the GPUs at the same price.

Nope.  Not selling a single GPU / rig.  There will be another *boom* one of these days.

History tends to repeat itself.  I'll be ready this time  Wink

I'm also holding on to some, but by the time that happens (if..) our top end GPUs might not be worth it anymore.

See though, i have a bunch of 7950s / 270s.  Their power/hash ratio won't be the best, but they won't be the worst either.  The new round of AMD cards will likely mirror the current crop of Nvidia Kepler GPUs in hash/watt (or do better) so efficiency is definitely better, but the 7950s and 270s were both at least 3khs / watt at a very bad minimum.  You can still make cash on that.

Now, all of that said, i probably should have sold my farm earlier this year when 7950s were going for $400+.  We may or may not see that again, but when GPU mining does kick back up, i'll have a decision to make for sure because i fully expect people to do the same exact thing they did this summer which was get cards at any cost.

If the next gen cards are the right price / available and people are paying up for the old cards, then dump my current farm and swap out for new cards.  Else, hold on to current farm and mine.
