Fuck yeah! Thanks for sharing, love to hear this.  I think it's a good move for them to grab Apple customers interested in cryptocurrencies.  Grin

According to the wording on the Microsoft page, this is purely to convert coins to fiat in your account 'at this time' so it's another bitpay thing. Still quite nice to hear about it though. As for it affecting the price (other than sell pressure), guess that depends on whether they opt to put BTC in front of normal users as an obvious option.

Right, the importance of this is far less the actual near- (or even medium-) term demand it's likely to structurally create for bitcoin; it's about the world's 3rd largest company, with a presence on a billion devices globally, giving an even-implied endorsement of Bitcoin.

To most of us, it's obvious that Bitcoin is a better technology with world-changing potential. But most people are incapable of independently evaluating ideas and really need this sort of social-proof.

Acceptance by a huge, stodgy company with software installed on nearly every corporate desktop in the world, will be very legitimizing in many people's minds.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

WARNING: It could be a joke because nobody is seen the option (I cannot see it neither)
Stop with the paranoia. If they made a joke like that, the reaction from the community would be furious.

This is excellent news. I think that nobody expected this to happen today, did they? Smiley

Amazing news, but it just occurred to me, more people loading $ in their accounts means more bitcoins being sold by Bitpay/Coinbase/whoever.

Yes, and that's a good thing. More people using bitcoins will result in a higher price. The more they get sold, the more they'll be bought. More demand = higher prices.

true that in speculation markets, high prices mean high demand, but now its time to use all those BTC for real!

However I for one will not use the (few) BTC that I own, I will just purchase more to spend.

Well, it actually means the price will be going down as those payment processors will be unloading more bitcoins on the market.

Payment in bitcoin is illegal in China. Chinese may not use bitcoin to pay for MS products.
