wow, much posts. I'll start updating in a few minutes.

About new players: you get the median score at the moment when you join the game.
I'll update the sheet in chronological order and calculate the median score with the exchange rate when you posted the message. So it's possible that it's slightly different then what you've posted
I'll let you know what the actual trade was.

happy trading all

(and damn it, I was eating while exchange rate went up Tongue )

So you start with $100?

Can I like, place a bid, as I would in a real exchange?

Either way, Ill buy now at $277.42: 0.36046

EDIT: wow good timing. I was considering placing a "bid" at $267, but the markets looked ready to move up, even if only a little.

At this point in time and with an exchange rate of 277.42 USD the median score was 90.24 USD

So you bought 0.32528 BTC Smiley

lol, its kinda odd that the starting balances arent the same since I thought it was a "competition"

I wish high frequency trading was allowed, I'd sell at $285 happily

well it wouldn't be fair to give every new player 100 USD while BTC went down a lot.

You would probably complain that you had considerably less money when BTC was at 500 USD right now and most of us gained from the rally Wink
That's why we use the median score

But we will do regular activity checks. I have something like this in mind:
If no confirmation within 48 hours by posting in this topic, peoples balances will be "charged" with 1%

That means you can't HODL your BTC or USD without "actively HODLing" Wink

edit: no confirmation is needed if at least one trade was made 48 prior to the activity check Wink

Well, I waited for this rebound until I got bored and the market looked bland, so I did something else, came back and saw this. Angry

Is there a rule that if we don't post a trade for 48h our virtual accounts are charged 1%?

Sometimes, if it looks too bullish, it's actually bearish

So as long as we come in here every 48 hours and say "HODLing" we can keep our current position without charge? That works

Every 48 hours or just within 48 hours of a "ACTIVITY CHECK" post?

HODL btw

no!  Smiley

the 48 hours start after I've send a message to inactive people. You qualify as "inactive" if you post nothing (or no trade, not decided yet) in this topic in the 48 hours prior to the activity check.

edit: I'm thinking... Should I send those activity check messages to the inactive people, or should I just post "ACTIVITY CHECK" on the last pages in this topic?
help me out guys Smiley I already said I want input from the players Wink

You guys should make sure you enter this with a plan. I fudged up my plan twice and look where that got me...

Btw, since you are using google docs, you can build an easy automatic converter on Sheet 3:

Username | BUY/SELL | Price | Calculated BTC | Calculated USD

You can then have the initial sum going through these individual orders and the result automatically calculated Smiley

This also allows you to see who was inactive the most (over the last X trades).

Putting "Activity check" in the thread could get lost if someone doesn't read all new posts.

Couldn't agree more! I'm used to trading in/out in short periods if need be, so the 8hr thing takes some getting used to. I've since started building a system specifically for this game and will start using it as soon as I have it to my liking.

A preview; Based on 8 hour bars. Buy on green open, sell on red open. It still needs fine tuning. Catches tops/bottoms pretty well

Results so far:

1. The best strategy is HODL. All HODLers are at the top quarter.
2. Among those who thinks they are smart/lucky enough to trade, 95% are in loss. They gave their money to the 5% that are really smart/lucky Smiley

I was a HODLER until few days ago and I'm in last position  Grin

(don't regret for my sell because until everything gets clarified about Bitstamp I think sit in buy position is too risky)

So far the money hodlers are in better shape, in general, because the median is around 90

some of those HODLers are referred to as being "Ghosts" Wink
That's why we need to have the activity check. If anyone has an idea on how to implement it fairly, let me know.

In any case, I'll send the first activity check by PM and explain the system to all who needs to post here something for the first time.

But if someone is called for a second activity check, I don't think it's a good idea to send a PM, because they could easily post something after they get an email notification.
So at first I was thinking to post it in this thread, but there is the risk that someone doesn't read all the posts (and nobody is expected to do that. After all, this thread is mainly for posting trades).
So I was thinking, maybe put the message on the scoreboard for 48 hours. In those 48 hours the people who don't trade are expected to post something in this topic, to show that they are "actively HODLing" (either BTC or USD). After all... if you never check the scoreboard and HODL your virtual USD or BTC, are you really playing this game?

your thoughts?

That would be perfect!
Make an extra column titled "required activity check" and put a check mark or bullet in the respective box

Buy @285.78
$88.14 / 285.78 = 0.3084

(It's shame that my previous buy didn't come through. What I was doing wrong?)
