They should set up a sting like that on SR using TOR and BTC. They might get a lot of people taking them up on their offer. Catching them might be trickier.

Yeah buying 50,000 credit card numbers from the FBI (or from anyone) is a very stupid thing to do, but I wonder if it really worth 40 years in jail. They seem to strongly protect their monetary system. What is the number of years in jail for killing an FBI officer? Is it at least 40 years? I wonder what the judicial system values the most. What happens when the feds sell guns to people that end up shooting a federal officer? Who is to blame and who goes to jail then? |
Introducing constraints to the economy only serves to limit what can be economical.

I would not be shocked if there were more than a few FBI members who invest in bitcoin (and thus read parts of this forum on off time). I know them to be very conservative financially and tech savvy. Many FBI officers are gold bugs so why not bitcoin. Also they had a report (advertisement) sent out to all their staff. And they clearly have to understand computer security and encryption. I do not think the FBI is anti bitcoin however they will go after crimes committed with bitcoin. Terrorism I'm sure is their priority. Silk Road and the like I bet is way down on their to do list. The FBI needs alpaca socks too you know! I was actually quite impressed with the FBI report. They "got" it: some cyber criminals use Bitcoin, so FBI agents should be aware of how the technology works because it may be related to crimes they are investigating. Totally rational and none of the "OMG Bitcoin is an illegal currency that is going to destroy the government!" attitude that some of the more tin-foil-hat-wearing members of this forum might think three letter agencies have about Bitcoin. |
