Actually my firmware based only on official sources(cgminer) i only add some nice looking graphs and tweaked a bit cgminer code to better support nicehash(revert old patch, apply new patch). Bitmain testing my firmwares, but looks like they decided to use old cgminer(dunno why, they don't told me  ). In next release i plan to add crontab as many people asking me to do so. |

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

I was going to buy a couple more S5's but the price is still $340, so I just bought bitcoin instead. I even asked Bitmaintech to see if they would lower the price considering it's been there for quite some time and they are shipping used hardware anyway. Nothing received in stone. Only reason I wanted to grab 1 or 2 more is because I have a free electrical outlet. You guys still aren't buying them at that price point, are you? I doubt the last sale they had no one will ROI anyway unless free electric and free power supplies all the way.

Buying BTC at current USD value makes way more sense than buying an S5 at it's current price. I've been purchasing BTC via coinbase for the last few weeks myself. It's going to cost me way more than $340 to mine 1 BTC with an S5 rather than spending ~$223 USD to acquire the same BTC presently. I'm honestly surprised Bitmain has remained firm with their pricing at $340 for so long (when you're the only game in town, amiright ?) which is even more incentive to buy BTC than their miners right now. |

It all depends on your electical costs, but for long term holding the current purchase price looks more attractive than miners unless you have REALLY low kw/h costs. |

Why they are selling used, dirty hardware to loyal customer's isn't correct. I wanted to establish a long term business relationship with them but when I mentioned about receiving used hardware I just got odd excuses and weird responses just as you did. I usually contact and speak with Yoshi since he's been wonderful since the day I started buying Bitmain products but the last few engagements about receiving used hardware was pretty much just left on the table by them. I would have worked together to resolve that issue but lack of responses and no willingness to correct the issues just weren't present. I still would love to keep a business relationship with Bitmain but when you think about the past experiences it almost forces you to look at other hardware manufacture's. There will become a time when these hardware manufacture's need to sell hardware again and make money but we will also be in power with our pockets at that time to buy other hardware. I also remember the price hike when the S5's were available and since Bitmain knew they were the only ones selling at that time sort of took advantage of that in more of a greedy sense then smart business. I've owned a couple other brands of mining hardware and none of them were used. They all had fresh new car smell. Using an excuse about dust or testing them is just being rude to us and disrespectful. It is unfortunate so many miners couldn't stand up to this type of business practice, because all they wanted to do was get them mining and didn't care if they were new or not. There is really not much more to say....a lot of us are in the same boat. p.s. My dad received used old hardware also from Bitmain. Old revision 1.3 boards. Completely different design then 1.7, 1.9 revisions. This miner with stock fan would reach abnormally high temps on one board, the old board of course. We brought attention to Bitmain about how dirty, dusty and used it was but really didn't get anywhere with having it replaced. There was no willingness on Bitmain's part to replace it. Anyway, the miner was taken apart, cleaned and new thermal compound applied. Put back together and now it is the coolest running rig in the whole bunch. Temps dropped considerably and stay at a constant 46-48. This type of thermal was used. http://www.arcticsilver.com/cmq2.html. So, if you have a few boards that just can't keep the temps down you may need to clean and re-paste your thermal compound. Will I buy Bitmain products again? Right now, no. I'll just stick with buying coin, since no hardware right now could make back what it cost. |

S5 can also run off an external SD card in addition it can use that SD card to re-flash the internal memory. True but the other two always use SD. It is easy to backup the SD and go right back if needed. When I went to the firmware on them it was easy to go back. I'm not saying his firmware isn't great. He's done an amazing job. I just wish it had the official seal of approval. |

S5 can also run off an external SD card in addition it can use that SD card to re-flash the internal memory. AFAIK there is no working solution to running S5 off SD card. There are instructions for recovery via SD but its not a full restore and will only work in some cases. |

The recovery image has a reflash script in it that should fully re-image the emmc. It should work in all cases where the beaglebone hardware is undamaged. It would appear it first zeros out the emmc then copies the firmware files from itself. You can look at /etc/init.d/initc_emmc_flash.sh to see the rest of how this seems to be done. Last I remember you could keep running it off of the SD card after this process but I haven't checked in a while. It would actually be fairly easy to remove part of this script so it just keeps running off of the SD card and doesn't flash the emmc in case you didn't want to touch the internal memory. echo "Paritioning eMMC"

If the S5's internal firmware was corrupted and no other damages to the S5, it can be restored by using the MicroSD card. You can download the bootable MicroSD card image for the restore purpose from here https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203461209-Jan-7-Firmware-Imageand you can use HDDGURU.com software called RAW DISK COPY to create the bootable MicroSD card and revive your S5. http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool/P.S: Yes, bitsolutions guy is correct. |

Bitmain did make it as easy as possible and I bought a replacement from them (it was during S3 days). And don't get me wrong I love your firmware and thank you for doing it. With what nicehash is paying right now I again took my S4's and C1's to your firmware. I will ride the current trend of high pay there, and go back to official after. |

With summer coming on I just sold my S5's and bought BTC with the money (I did keep one to solo mine with) |
