Looking at it from BTC it was not a huge raise - 1.363 BTC from 1.326 BTC . Which equals 0.037 looking at it this way it does not look quite as bad.
Still stinks for any raise but I don't think that is anyone's profit margin lost as far as that jump.

the only solution is not to buy anything, so they learn to raise prices, so I suppose that if the price goes up to $ 1,000 btc, an S5 will pay you $ 580?
I still wanted to buy 4 miner s5, but not worth such price miner, shipping price, price customs Italian, today a single s5 cost me $ 550. I do not buy anything, even sell anything.

You can't blame Bitmain on customs though. That is the country's law's. Bitmain did not put a customs up in your case Italy. They control price of miner unit. But shipping and customs are really something they don't control or make money off of.

I do not blame bitmain for customs, but this increase in prices for hardware already exists just to make money, it seems excessive, and do not sit well with me

Its tied to $/btc... Are you going to get annoyed that Bitstamp and Coinbase raised their prices for 1btc?

dog1965: well, if you don't like the miner, then the price is moot
Antminer S5 Batch 1 sold for $419 at a time when USD/BTC was at 251.6, so BTC1.665342 March 21st was the cheapest for S5 Batch 5 in archive.org for both USD and BTC at $340 / BTC1.33 (USD/BTC @ 293.39 * 1.33 = $390.21) Currently: $439 / BTC1.491 (USD/BTC @ 294.42 * 1.491 = $438.89)

Must be crazy, to buy the same "shitminer" six months later, for the same price or even more expensively.

"bitmain keeps raising the price of S5's to keep the number of bitcoins the same... 2 weeks ago 14s5's would cost about 21btc... they still do" Yah, this is bullshit.. I would have pulled the trigger today if the USD price was the same as it was 2 weeks ago.. i think about 380

they are probably using them.. so they calculate the worth as how much they will lose if they sell it.

they just bumped the price on the S4+ too. now its $1170 before shipping. was $994 like 2 days go. i think it ridiculous that they expect us to wait 6-8 months to ROI (if they last that long) and yet they only warranty them for 3 months. ROI should be as long as the warranty is! total BS.

it is, it seems like they dont want you to make a ROI so they keep the price just high enough to get your initial investment at the current btc/usd price. i paid 1.259 btc for mine.. i would buy one again at that price.. but no higher.. sucks too cause i want another one and i almost have enough now.

i wish the mining industry learned more from the PC industry. Like bitmain should just make socketed chips and a chipset and let others build motherboards and cases. follow a standard. maybe its to much of a niche for that but still it would be cool. i hope their next Miner is enclosed like the S3. open case is the worst idea ever. i dont care if it saves on shipping. make it out of plastic.

Thanks for posting that is very interesting to read. They really are not selling a ton of them if you look at it. Especially when you consider they are only game in town with this gen in stock shipping new. I guess we will wait and see what they do the speed up sales eventually.

the pc industry needed to standardise because they had to sell to the masses, with bitcoin asics, they do not have to sell to the masses (only bitmain still do!). And be careful what you wish for in terms of build as you will have to pay a pretty penny for it! Flip side is asic mining rigs are throw away devices, and bitmain must have realised the ills of their design with the S3 (on a technical note, all my open S3's, i.e built from the S1 to S3 kits, perform better than the enclosed ones at any freq), thus the S5's design.
