Did you send the item to his address listed on his eBay and PayPal and was it verified? Sadly it seems with PayPal anyone can say they didn't authorise the payment whether they did or not and get away with it.

Yea I know there have been warnings, but is there a way to win these cases, or is PayPal just going to let the buyer protection rule over everything.

Hey guys, I recently got chargeback scammed on PayPal and the funds have been put on hold. I've sent information about the shipping and other information however I don't think that's enough. Could you guys provide any tips? Thanks.

THat's exactly why I don't use Paypal ! .
Anyway , your only chance and thing to do now is to contact Paypal (do not email them, call them for fast help) and explain the situation for them and that you sent the tracking number .

That's basically what's happened in the past, they tend to always side with the buyer no matter what.

This is often problem with Pasypal service.
I have good experience with Paypal as buyer because they refunded my funds after dispute and claim but I heard that many sellers have problem with Paypal, blocked accounts, funds...
It seems that Paypal support and protect much more buyers than sellers.

You can not fight paypal chargeback which is used mainly by scammer. Only thing that you can do when you have to be payed from someone, is not to use paypal but other method of payment. With Paypal you can be scammed without any problem

When the claim is for an unauthorized purchase your saving grace is 'Seller protection'  if the address is indicated as 'confirmed' by Paypal then you have permission by them to mail to that address even if it is "fake".   Now depending on the amount of the item you need delivery confirmation and or signature confirmation.

But like everyone else has told you, try not to deal with Paypal, that is the smartest advice.

I searched up the address on Google this time (not google map) and it showed a business with the buyer's last name. I'm just hoping that "Registered Post International" has signature on delivery included.

What would be the best form of payment to accept on eBay?

Again it doesn't matter if the address if real or fake, the only thing that matters is how Paypal recognizes the address.  Go to the paypal transaction. look at the area above the shipping address, if it says: "not eligable" for seller protection, then you won't win.   If it says: "ok to ship"  or "confirmed" (in green) or "eligible"  for seller protection  the next step is making sure you have shipping confirmation and/or signature confirmation  depending on the value of the goods purchased.

As for ebay, essentially the recommendation is not to use ebay.  but if you do use ebay read and understand all about your rights, join the groups there to expain things to you in terms you will understand.  otherwise you will pay via the school of hard knocks  either way you will learn.

I'm guessing the merchandise was insured, from what it sounds like the intended receiver didn't get the merchandise, as such you might have an insurance claim.  Read your insurance coverage policy then make a claim that fits.

good luck and merry christmas

This is why I like the irreversible systems like Webmoney better, no chargebacks! Wish I could help you but Paypal has a bad reputation for siding with fraudulent buyers who have done chargebacks. Keep contacting them and provide as much proof as possible.

Paypal is great for being protected as a buyer, but it's shit for sellers in these situations. I always withdraw the money as soon as I get it because if I lose an unjust case I'm never going to pay it. They can try take me to court as well.

Once the buyer chargeback using credit card most of the time paypal will sided with buyer or else paypal will pay the seller.

Most of the time the buyer chargeback using credit card their main reason is their paypal is hacked.

hi there, this has happened to me twice, the first time i bit the bullet because i didn't have proof of postage but the second time i did andi won let me explain how.

Both cases where for UNAUTHORISED TRANSACTION

So the first time, it was the weekend of my sisters graduation in bath near bristol and i had sold a push bike frame to this guy on ebay. to save on the postage i said to the guy that i was coming up that way that weekend and that id bring the frame with me and drop it off to save on postage. BIG MISTAKE. the guy paid me i had the the funds in my paypal and i took them out straight away and put the funds into my bank account as you do (in the mean time there's a text trail between me and the buyer with a place and a time and confirming hes happy with the product). about 3 months later i had a email come through first thing in the morning that the buyer had opened a chargeback case against me which i felt was strange but it left me -500.00 in my paypal balance. so i contacted the buyer and he confirmed that he was happy with the product. BUT because i didnt have proof of postage i didnt have a leg to stand on. i had to repay 500 and i was a bike frame down. and i was only 17.

The second time, i had sold a Playstation 4 with 4 games i sold this item on the 15th of september. the guy on ebay who had credible feedback on ebay, i shipped the item via my companies DHL account, i provided the buyer with the tracking code which expires after 90 days but as this was a business account it's kept for life. he left me feedback on ebay saying "Great seller, would recommend happy with the product"  Shocked Shocked he shot himself there. there was also ebay messages between me and the buyer and he confirmed he received it.
On the 18th of december 2015 i received a email from paypal saying "chargeback case initiated" i read this on my smartphone whilst on the train to london from plymouth and i felt physically sick. so i acted fast as  christmas was among us I firstly print screened the feedback left buy the buyer; i then print screened the messages between me and the buyer and then i contacted DHL and got my account manager to email me a PDF of the tracking certificate. i opened the PDF and i couldn't believe my eyes i had his signature and his first initial and last name Mohamed mabrouk alarm bells went off.

In paypals lovely email i received on the 18th they stated i had 10 days to provide the relevant information or i would have to pay. so within 2 hours of receiving the email i had uploaded to paypal all the information. proof of postage, evidence of feedback and messages.

i didn't not hear anything from paypal from the 18th of december 2015 to the 4th of january 2016 so i called them on the 4th and spoke to a lady called gina, she copied me into her email she had sent to the charge back team and then i sent them this lovely letter.

Sent on the 4th

Dear  Chargeback Team,

I received a call this afternoon from Tom Cowan.
A buyer opened a chargeback case against Mr Cowan.

Here are the details of this case:
•   Buyer's name: Mohamed Mabrouk
•   Buyer's email: mohamedmabrouk1989@hotmail.co.uk
•   Buyer's transaction ID: **************
•   Transaction date: 25 September 2015
•   Transaction amount: **********
•   Disputed amount: ************

Mr Cowan has provided all documentation requested from him since the 18.12.2015 and yet the case is still under review.
I have explained the process and time frame to the seller, however due to the fact that the seller has provided tracking and proof of postage showing item was delivered, i believe somethings needs to be initiated to the seller to get this resolved ASAP.
I have advised Mr Cowan to contact your department directly to obtain more information regarding the case.
Please could an email be initiated to the seller as confirmation to when the case will be closed or even just a confirmation from yourself as his has no response since tracking information was provided.
Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Gina

sent on the 4th of january 2016
Dear chargeback Team,

I wish to complain strongly  about the Situation I find myself in due to no fault of my own. I  was absolutely appalled to discover when I checked my e mails while travelling to Canada on the 18th December to discover that Mohamed Mabrouk had opened a chargeback against me.
On discovering this I immediately supplied all the required proof that the goods had been  delivered to Mr Mabrouk on 30/09/2015 at 14:44  , and had been signed for by Mr Mabrouk himself at the correct address.
I also supplied Paypal with the Ebay feedback I received from Mr Mabrouk saying that he had received the item and that he was happy with it.

I must question the fact that he has subsequently 3 months later, opened the chargeback case against me , why if he was claiming he had not received the item , did he not carry this out immediately, and why did he leave a positive feedback. I have clearly demonstrated that I have supplied the item as sold via ebay as I have supplied a copy of the DHL tracking which is the only proof of delivery that is available, however I used my employers DHL account as I wanted to ensure reliable delivery and DHL is a  world class courier . My employer allowed me to use the business account as we have an excellent relationship.

The reason you cannot access the DHL tracking,  when you checked it ,  is that  after 90 days the tracking  information is archived. I had to ask my boss to contact DHL and get the tracking PDF sent to him via email  as I was travelling at the time.

Having supplied all the required proof of delivery all within a few hours of discovering this situation, I expected the situation to be resolved by the time I was back in the country, I was absolutely furious to discover this was not the case and have had to spend more time this morning on my first day back in work trying to resolve this.

I expect this to be dealt with as a matter of extreme urgency as you have had all the evidence for over 2 weeks now. I demand that this be resolved to my satisfaction  by noon on Friday the 8th of January 2016 as there are no excuses for this dreadful level of customer service.

Regards,

TC

so i sent all this information of to the chargeback team on the 4th. i came into work on the 5th and checked my paypal and low and behold. i have a balance of 0.00GBP.

I WON THE CASE.

ALWAYS KEEP PROOF OF POSTAGE REGARDLESS. ALWAYS POST TO THE ADDRESS PAYPAL GIVE YOU NOT EBAY. AND PROVIDE AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE IN YOUR DESCRIPTION.

i hope this helps people out please let me know what you think! Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue

Yours sincerely,
Gina

Regards,

TC

The way to beat PayPal scams is to avoid using PayPal. They have a long history of scamming members, and of supporting scammers and thieves on Ebay.

One of my customers is in the beginning stages of dealing with this after selling a guitar - to add to what previous posters said, don't use Paypal and if you do, for god's sake don't use the gift option.

You can't do something specific, avoiding the condition in the first place is the most important because PayPal always sides with the buyer.

Never had any issues with PayPal and pleased with their TOS protecting both sites so what the issue here?
