Why would anyone scam just $38?  Serious question here.

Why would anyone scam period? As always, it rots me.
Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

Because you didn't believe he would, it's easier than scamming $138.

Why would anyone scam just $38?  Serious question here.

When I was 13, $38 was a lot - but that was a long time ago.
When I was 21, it would buy a week of groceries, but that was also a while ago.
Now $38 doesn't even buy a decent bottle of whiskey (but decent vodka maybe).  Simply a matter of degrees.

By the above reasoning, for 4.5 BTC I have some entertainment and have identified a 13 year old with a bad credit history.

Just keep giving those coins away.  You should pay me half of what you are going to give away in the future and I will kick you in the nuts.  Then you still will have half of your coins!

But then I wouldn't have any entertainment value.

As someone who was accused of being a scammer on my first loan request, I'd like to defend Patrick's methods.

He may take a hit occasionally, but his loan business is obviously still profitable.

Moreover, I know he has personally helped me get more involved in the Bitcoin world; I'm sure this is the same for other people who might have otherwise been turned down.
