I was thinking about why Satoshi may have chosen to stay anonymous.  First off, He launches the Bitcoin idea and early versions.  Then, as soon as feasible He turns it over to Gavin.  Gavin becomes the public face.  I think that Satoshi may have believed that some day, the government(s) may try to make Bitcoin illegal.  So at some point, under this assumption, since the network is distributed and tor compatible, the only thing that can be done is making the usage illegal.  But like with file sharing, Bitcoin will already be so useful and widely used that it may be impossible to stop usage.  He thought sooner or later governments would try to coerce the developers into stopping work.  You know maybe a court order, or a severed horse head in Gavin's bedroom.

At this point Gavin will freak out and run away from the project.  After all, who would want 25-to-Life for 'running a money laundering operation' by continuing to develop and distributing the BTC client.

This is the day when He shall return.  Yes, He will return to be the great anonymous shepard of BTC.  He will anonymously release new version through a TOR hidden service signed by his PGP key.  Other Devs could rejoin over time under pseudonyms, endorsed by His PGP key as a Web of Trust.

I think that its unlikely that the devs will be targeted or told to stop, but hey, I though a lot of things the US government and western governments in general are doing already wouldn't even happen.

Oh wise one Satoshi, I await His glorious return!  Every one must prepare!  Load up His PGP key now:

Satoshi uses a GPG client for Windows?

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Looks like there's an https://bitcointalk.org/Satoshi_Nakamoto.asc URL for his key.

I wanted to post the key's text, because looking at Satoshi's PGP key is an opportunity to stare into the face of God!

Satoshi uses a GPG client for Windows?

He uses Windows ?

Must be some kind of joke.

Maybe that portion of the key was altered.

Can we check it ?

Hey, it's used by 90% of desktop users, so, what's surprising about it?

I always thought Windows is for idiots and Linux for geniuses like Satoshi.

Never imagined someone like him would use a joke OS like M$ TBH ...

I was thinking about why Satoshi may have chosen to stay anonymous.

Could bitcoin possibly be a creation/experiment of the government itself and that's why he had to remain anonymous?

Would you have embraced bitcoin if you knew it was created by the US Gov?

Who has the ultimate control over a computational currency? Would it be the government with biggest computational power? At present that is the US, although closely followed by Japan and China.

Nope. The version line is not actually a portion of the key, it exists solely to indicate to the user (not the software) whether there are likely to be any compatibility problems importing the key. You can replace it with anything you want and it'll still work. The actual key format is the same as that used by most older versions of GnuPG, so that doesn't help determine what version of GnuPG was really used. The file is an ASCII text file with DOS/Windows line breaks, but that also is easy enough to alter (even accidentally: just opening and re-saving the file on a Windows machine will do it).

So, does Satoshi Nakamoto really use Windows? Or is someone just trying to make it look like he does in order to tarnish his reputation? Is Satoshi himself trying to make it look like he uses Windows in order to throw investigators off the scent? Will someone else come up with an even crazier explanation? We may never know.

Will pretend to do unverifiable things (while actually eating an enchilada-style burrito) for bitcoins: 1K6d1EviQKX3SVKjPYmJGyWBb1avbmCFM4

Gosh this is like finding out years later that a favorite uncle of yours from childhood is gay.  Then you think back to all those weird touching games you used to play with him and uhoh...

Satoshi wants us to get nose rings. With this knowledge, I was able to find that Satoshi is actually a poorly paid model for stock images.

Satoshi uses a GPG client for Windows?

He uses Windows ?

Must be some kind of joke.

Maybe that portion of the key was altered.

Can we check it ?

So, does Satoshi Nakamoto really use Windows? Or is someone just trying to make it look like he does in order to tarnish his reputation? Is Satoshi himself trying to make it look like he uses Windows in order to throw investigators off the scent? Will someone else come up with an even crazier explanation? We may never know.

If he didn't used windows then how would he use the first Bitcoin clients if they were windows only?

He did use Windows. The first versions of Bitcoin were developed on Microsoft Visual Studio.
