I have noticed that there have been a lot of bumps in the digital goods section that are done more often then every 24 hours. The solution to these is to report them to get them deleted (this part is easy).

I have also noticed that several threads seem to get random people asking random questions in threads and then never coming back to the thread, nor appear to have any actual interest in what is being sold. From what I can tell these posts are made at approximate times where the thread would appear towards the bottom of the first page or somewhere after the 1st page; not only that but the original poster will not respond until the thread will have fallen to a similar place (I have not had a chance to do a study on this, I was planning on doing so, however it seems that bump spam has gotten worse in recent times).

The reason I noticed this happening is because of this thread which is someone offering to use their various accounts to bump threads (obviously more often then every 24 hours).

I have noticed that this is only happening to certain threads, while other threads are receiving zero (or close to zero) of these random questions despite selling similar items.

I don't think it is appropriate to report most of the posts by random accounts because they do ask legitimate questions, and the responses are also legitimate, it is just that based on activity that happens after such questions are asked and answered, the process repeats itself with another account.

My questions are is there anything that can be done about this? Is it possible to track this kind of behavior? What is the appropriate way to report this kind of activity?

I have honestly been guilty of bumping more then once every 24 hours, (several months ago - probably 4+) was caught, and spoken to and promptly changed my bumping behavior to wait in much more then 24 hours between bumps (often much more then 24 hours - sometimes days). If this pattern of random questions is being done by persons in control of the same account as the person who created such thread, I think this is unfair to others who play by the rules, only bump as often as allowed and promptly responds to questions made in sales threads (eliminating the extra "free" bump)

EDIT: Hulu+, BeatsMusic, MalawareBytes Bundle 1.5$! appears to be engaging in this activity. The user Hello Im Me appears to have several threads with similar abusive behavior
Code:
OP created: 30/12/14 ~9:00 PM
Newbie user Xxmodded replies 31/12/14 ~6:30 AM ~9 hours after OP
OP bumps thread: 31/12/14 ~12:00 PM ~6 hours after last post ~18 hours after OP
10 posts between newbie user and OP within the span of ~90 mins ending 31/12/14 ~2:00 PM
OP bumps thread: 31/12/14 ~2:30 PM ~30 mins after last post ~2.5 hours after last bump
Random newbie from reply 1 posts again 2/1/15 ~11:30 AM
OP replies to above post 2/1/15 ~2:00 PM by now the thread would have been a good ways down the first page at least
More unnecessary replies to the thread when a PM would have done
OP bumps thread: 3/1/15 ~12:45 PM ~18 hours from last post ~2 days since last bump
OP bumps thread: 3/1/15 ~4:30 PM ~4 hours from last bump
EDIT2: Cheap: NBA League Pass, HBO Go, ...etc also engaging in similar activity
Code:
per negative trust from mitzie the OP created more then 30 accounts to give fake reviews
Per the signature of the OP: he was banned for 30 days for posting too much
Many of the clearly obvious fake vouches posted significantly more often then every 24 hours mostly every few hours when done in one day
EDIT3:★ Skype Unlimited ...$5 Each... [VOUCHED] is doing the same thing.
Code:
23/12/14 ~3:15 AM OP created
23/12/14 ~1:00 PM OP bumps thread, ~10 hours after OP created
Shortly after last bump a bunch of likely signature spam, ending at 23/12/14 ~1:30 PM
OP bumps thread 24/12/14 ~4:45 AM, ~15 hours after last post, ~16 hours after last bump
Legit question asked 29/12/14 ~3:15 PM
Random newbie seems to answer question (or at least gives a vague response) 29/12/14 ~6:45 PM the thread would likely be a good ways towards the bottom of the first page by now
OP answers above legit question 29/12/14 ~11:15 PM

[DISCOUNTS] Bitcointalk.org Accounts - Seniors, ... Members ... More! appears to be a very bad violator.
Code:
OP created 27/10/14 ~5:45 PM
OP bumps thread 27/10/14 ~8:45 PM, ~3 hours after after OP made, would have been low on first page by now
A likely legit, but suspicious question and answer shortly after previous bump, ending at 27/10/14 ~9:00 PM
Random newbie asks question 31/10/14 ~5:20 PM
2nd random newbie asks different question 31/10/14 ~8:30 PM, ~3 hours after last post, thread would be in the middle/bottom of 1st page
OP answers 1st random newbie's question 1/11/14 ~1:00 AM, ~4.5 hours from last post, does not answer 2nd question
OP answers 2nd random newbie's question 1/11/14 ~9:30 AM, ~9 hours from last post, this is effectively a bump
Neither random newbie is heard from again throughout the thread
Scammer raveldoni posts making a comment on the price, 8/11/14 ~12:30 PM - he never posts in digital goods again for ~30 posts; most of his posts since then were shit posts in the altcoin sections, he eventually posts there again to sell his legendary account
OP responds to above post, 8/11/14, ~6:00 PM
A bunch of signature spam and legal bumps ending 26/12/14 ~4:00 PM
OP bumps thread, 27/12/14 ~10:45 AM, ~19 hours after last bump
Random jr member posts asking for a PM 27/12/14 ~12:00 PM
Random full member posts making an offer 27/12/14 ~5:45 PM, ~6 hours after last post
OP replies to full member advising he sent a PM, 28/12/14, ~9:30 PM
Additional questions asked and bumps ending 2/1/14 ~9:45 PM with a bump
OP bumps thread 3/1/14 ~10:15 AM ~13 hours after last bump

EDIT4: [WTS]...Skype...15$ is an example when this is not occurring
Code:
OP created 22/12/14 ~11:00 AM
random newbie replies 3/1/14 ~10:15 AM >a week from last post
Granted this person's prices are somewhat high compared to other prices

As a bitcointalk user, it is extremely hard for you to prove those accounts are controlled by the same person. Yes, it is suspicious but I don't think mods would or should remove the posts just for that.

On the other hand, admins (theymos and badbear) can see the IPs, and so may be they can verify that for you.

I recently made the same mistake and yiu pointed the finger at me today. I wasn't really aware of that rule, but I think there should be a stickied topic regarding the bumping problem.

I wasn't really aware of that rule, but I think there should be a stickied topic regarding the bumping problem.

For your information, there is a sticky thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3629.0 in the marketplace section.

Marketplace rules and guidelines
1. Trading of goods that are illegal in the seller's or buyer's country is forbidden.
2. Insert a [CLOSED] tag to the subject line when your offer is no more open.
3. To prevent illegal trades involving hacked accounts, there are special restrictions when selling accounts and invites for invite-only sites. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134779.0
4. Bumps are limited to once per day (24 hours), yes this includes "updates", that's what the edit button is for. Old bumps should be deleted as they serve no purpose, and only clutter up topics and make it more annoying to read.

It also says you are not allowed to "update" the thread and I see you doing that sometimes Quickseller. I'm now aware of the rules and I'll stick to it.

They should also add this rule: You're not allowed to post in a topic if you're not selling/buying in the Digital Goods sections ! Unless you warn people for scam practices. This to prevent topics from clutter

You should stop accusing me of things when you don't know shit. Maybe go outside and socialize. I only have one alt account (I'm selling it) and I did not bump my thread in the digital goods section with alt accounts.

Prime example of one of those "asking questions bumps" that Quickseller is talking about.

Don't bother deleting it.

About what did we talk earlier today? I ALREADY apologized twice, I clearly posted that I'm now aware of the rules and stop pointing your finger at me, get out of my a** already. Try to make a contribution to this forum instead of bashing other forum members multiple times for what they've done wrong. I received multiple warnings, that's more than enough. You can keep your eye on me and I'll prove you that I've learned from this. You act like it's the biggest crime on this forum. Yes it's a general problem but you're just trying to annoy the heck out of people which is pointless as well. Wink Like I said before, maybe it's time for you to go outside, get some fresh air.

I just stated that updates are not allowed as well (because I also didn't know that), meaning that posts like "pm sent" should be edited/added to the last post

Shouldn't services like bumping the threads for money with ALTs be deleted as bumping is only allowed once per 24 hours? Account selling isn't against rules, so for account buy/sell services, there shouldn't be any prob. This service isn't like that and is against rule. Correct me if I am wrong! Smiley

yes this is, imo worse then signature spam via shitposts. I have primarily noticed this happening on account selling threads however I have also noticed that a select few threads are constantly at the top of the first page.

My questions are is there anything that can be done about this? Is it possible to track this kind of behavior? What is the appropriate way to report this kind of activity?

I doubt there would be anything that could be done. Sure, this can be tracked by admins, but theymos has said before that a user's IP address would not be revealed unless forced by law.

I would say that it is pretty likely that mods/admins are aware of this (people who spend a significant chunk of their time moderating user are likely to have noticed this) and spreading awareness of this problem may actually hinder rather than help (more people will realize the effectiveness of this and might try to use this method).

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

Theymos/BadBear does not have to reveal the IP addresses of any account. They have used (likely IP evidence) in the past to connect multiple accounts to one person.

I don't think you should try to sweep problems under the rug, doing so prevents the open discussion of an issue to potentially find a solution

I seem to have carried away on some of my bumps, I have to admit.

I have deleted all previous bumps and will limit my bumps to once every 24 hours.
