Everyone (the press / media) acts as if Bitcoin was somehow hacked. Bitstamp is a private company which buys and sells bitcoin and they left their keys in a place where crooks found them. There is nothing wrong with the key - the key is very strong. The quality of the key isn't the problem. The hiding place was crap. Don't leave your freaking keys out where thieves find them!!!!
Bitcoin wasn't hacked!!! (yet!)

Well when people not too involved with bitcoin see news like this, they imagine that everyone lost their coins and the whole bitcoin thing was hacked, just like mtgox.

Yes and No. At current rate it will take the whole network to perform the feat so I think you are right that the key is probably there for the taking. In years to come probably the scenario would change so computer technology advances

*Sigh* When will exchanges/companies learn? MtGOX(supposedly), Inputs, and many others...but still they are not securing their systems?
