Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

How about a "most used" list, as in how much has moved through a single address since it first appeared? I'm guessing there would be a bunch of mtgox addresses listed, followed by 1VayNert somewhere in close.

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

Show in front of each address:
Total of coins (not list address with 0 coins)
I think this list is good to have an idea of lost coins.
Obs: I know long inactivity doesn't mean the coins are lost

maybe. that addy is strange though. I followed a ~4k out of it and and hits a few addies and then comes back into the orginal addy again with 15k~ about 20 days later. |

Actually ... I also thought that that 500K BTC address was Gox's initially, but some people disagree. I forgot the thread where this was discussed. I agree. I also do not believe it is GOX. Gox cold storage is much more 'detached' from actual user addresses than what is apparent here from this particular addy. |

hmm, if what this guy is saying is true, maybe; What I mean to say is that I sent btc to silk road and then I tracked the funds. They immediately went to that address. That is Silk Road's main storage. Nearly two million USD is tied up in the Silk Road Marketplace.
This account will now be thrown away.
I just can't imagine it. There is no way he is profiting that much and there are not enough outgoing payments to would be vendors. though the cyclic nature of some fo the outputs going back in would suggest some sort of hedging is occuring there. *ponders* |

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

If they revealed their identity here (i.e. signed a message with their private key stating who they are), then we could do that. But one of the key features of Bitcoin is anonymity. |
