Bitcoin and crypto in general is driven by consensus. A good coin wouldn't breach consensus with the userbase. The existance of the foundation is a breach of consensus. There is no consensus for the foundation. Why should it exist when there is no consensus for it?

Why do you think Andreas Antonopolous left that big pile of scum called the Bitcoin Foundation?
Too many bad actors and shady characters involved in that figurehead group. Karpeles, Brock Pierce, Shrem, etc...
It's a good thing that Bitcoin is decentralized, and they have no control or say over the currency or protocol.
The Bitcoin Foundation doesn't represent Bitcoin.

I'm not sure about the consensus, but there's a need for BTC to evolve if we want it to get faster and be able to handle way more transactions. A foundation, the BTC Foundation as it is, looks appropriate for the task.

they all need quick money. why do you think they made that foundation? they got a lot of funds from "sharks" and together can manipulate the market. that Foundation exists because you let it to talk in your behalf. raise your voices when you hear someone from "Foundation" talking a lot of shits in press. tell to that shit press that Foundation doesn't represent the Bitcoin community. the Foundation has the "power" because you gave it to them....but you can take it back anytime

Well, effectively anybody could just go ahead and build a new foundation for Bitcoin! Sure. It effectively boils down to who supports you and what means he/she has! If you gather enough people to support you in creating a new foundation, go ahead! But I agree that the current foundation is very questionable, to say the least!

Yeah, but on whose authority? Even if Satoshi came around the corner, he couldn't do jack about the Foundation. It's nothing more than, say, the FIFA saying they're the instance when it comes to soccer/football. They're effectively just another association, after all.

Andreas looks like a vampire. But he probably can't help that and it shouldn't influence your opinion of his character.
That is all I wanted to say, please carry on with the discussion.

If they want to implement an update, the whole network has to agree on the changes or it will fail. That's the beauty of bitcoin because nobody can control it. So what's your deal on the foundation

don't mix the protocol and the bitcoin ecosystem and economy. The foundation only will cease to exist when people don't take the foundation into account.

Well, the Foundation is merely an entity interested in Bitcoin and trying to push it forward. Since they're not funded and regulated by any official state, government or whatever, they need to finance themselves and attract all kinds of people. I'm not very fond of them, as well. But I think we can't do anything about it, unless we build a new foundation or offer something better ourselves!

This Foundation is talking in the behalf of the whole BTC community. The question is : why is it necessary a centralized entity?

Organized groups aren't bad since they can start big promotional campaigns and influence government officials and politicians. Organized and registered entities tend to have more impact than individuals in this centralized world of ours, so the foundation could be breaching a certain gap.

hehehe. Build new 'foundations', a whole bunch of them is maybe a good idea. Hereby i declare myself the president of the "only official foundation of Bitcoin" http://www.adpic.de/data/picture/detail/Korken_knallen_lassen_156668.jpgIf you don't like it: suck my balls and have your own 'foundation' 'Picking up a ball and run with it is what players do' Consensus on what exactly? Anybody can pick up the ball and run with it. That's what players do.

Like I said before there can never, never be something official. No "official bitcoin foundation" or anything, its as ridiculous as claiming to be "the official bitcoin exchange" or "the official bank of bitcoin". Its so dumb. The only thing that could make sense to call official is the Bitcoin QT wallet if you want to.

We include everyone and exclude noone, so we are the 'only official foundation of bitcoin'. There needs to be no consensus on it because we just took the ball and ran with it. So please spare us the 'you can't be official' because we are! If you think different you are free to open up the 'un-official foundation'. Hope this explains it.
