So lately I've bought a few miners mostly because this is simply a hobby to me and somewhat of a learning experience. The miners I have are 2 BFL Jallys (7.50 to 8.50GH) and a BFL single 50GH miner. I have been thinking about getting an S2... Thoughts?

if it's a mining hobby, get something from SP-tech. If it's an electronics hobby .. get anything else and try to fine-tune them or put them together.

Why do you want an S2? Out of the bitmain lineup, why that unit? You are getting ready to make a real jump. Running XXGH when you move to XTH shit gets real (fun). In your shoes, I'd read a lot and ask some pointed questions. When you get to "this makes sense because ______" throw up your idea. You may get invaluable input without wasting money.

Keep in mind if you are using them for home mining, they are EXTREMELY LOUD compared to other miners out there.

Used S2 could be a great miner if your condition meets certain requirements. (or just mine for fun as a hobby) however, you may save money by buying Antminer S5 as a new unit. You will get 1.15TH and half the power consumption and you can buy it on Amazon with a credit card or bank account payment or gift card purchase. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RCTIY4G* Noise wise, S2 and S5... You'll notice it is running from the fan. Keep in mind if you are using them for home mining, they are EXTREMELY LOUD compared to other miners out there.

I would have said the S2 is one of the quieter out of the latest units. Louder than an S3 (which were excellent), but definitely quieter than S4/S5's fans.

S5 is perfect for home mining (maybe Avalon4 too, but S5 is more simple - plug in, turn on, configure and enjoy!). It just need fan replacement. So djroadking, why don't you grab a couple of S5s? There is no need to waste an electricity with S2...

I could get one used for a decent price which is why I asked specifically about the S2. As far as noise goes I keep fans going in my bedroom anyway because they help me with sleep.

Check out rockminer.com
The "new" R-box is the PERFECT hobby miner.
If you want some srs hasing power I suggest Bitmain tech the S5 or spoodlies(that isn't the real name of the company I just like that name so call them that). Keep in mind though Bitmain and Spoodlies miners use SERIOUS POWER.
The "new" R-box only uses 100 watts it is perfect for getting your "vote" in bitcoin or another alt coin.
