Does everyone agree this is the S5?

No. My   water cooled S5 is more powerful, quieter and much better.  Grin

1145W  2300GH/s
0.498W / GHs

1295W      2580GH/s
0,502W / GHs

I only agree  S5 blades and controller is today the most effective.  However, S5 technical realization,  is a mess and firehazard.

water cooled S5 costs 931USD
Shipping 307USD Depends on the country

2x S5 = 2x 341 USD+shipping (109USD)

SC-BC2 antiminner cooling kit  $119  + shipping (99USD)

S5 Modified Kit  $130  + shipping (99USD)

Does everyone agree this is the S5?

no, probably the SP20 (though you need to buy 3 to get a good price).

both units are pretty close, and operate around 0.5w/gh at the 1100-1200GH.

The S5 can opten go up to 1300GH at the same 0.5w/gh though, whereas the SP20 increases to ~0.6w/GH at that speed
The S5 can be undervolted with a 10V input to achieve approx. 900GH/380W. The SP20 can underclock to achieve similar specs at its lowest settings.

SP20 is better design, smaller, sleeker, and power adjustments are easy through the WEB UI. imo, as long as the SP20 is not >10% more expensive than the S5, its the winner

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

no an underclocked sp20 can do .45 gh a watt.

so at 1000gh the sp20 is the winner.

but at 1300 gh the s-5 can do .51 gh per watt.

so at 1300 gh the s-5 is the winner but crazy loud.

these 2 units are pretty in a dead heat depends a lot on  how many you want  and how you can set them up in your home.

I own both , but my home is better to run sp20's.

If the s-5 could do this six pack stack below I would like it more:

This is my first post, but I have been doing a ton of research.  I work in IT so am pretty familiar with computer hardware and Linux.  I live in an area of the country where the power is 2.7 cents per Kilowatt hour.  There are lots of datacenters moving into our area for that reason.  I'd like to start doing some home bitcoin mining.  Mostly for fun, but given our low power rates maybe make a little money.   I've narrowed it down to maybe the Antminer S5 or the Spondoolie SP20.   On paper I'm comparing the stock power consumption and hashing rates.  It does appear that the S5 is a little more efficient and cheaper to begin with.  Is the SP20 better built?  Better firmware?  Basically looking for some input from people with more experience on which one to get.   On paper:

Antminer s5          1155 Gh/s  power consumption 590 watts  cost $341 ( saw someone post $249 where is that from?)
Spondoolie SP20    1700Gh/s   power consumption 1152 watts  cost $475

If the SP20 is much better built or considered more reliable or more configurable I might consider it, but am leaning towards the S5.

Any help much appreciated....

Thanks.

That is very likely true given the current value of Bitcoin.  I probably will buy a couple hundred $ worth just for fun.  The mining idea sounds like a good excuse to buy some computer hardware/new hobby.  I'm also doing some research for a student club - they can't buy coins and engage in currency speculation, but they could plug in some servers and run them on campus.  They currently run a couple of webservers and a Minecraft server.  At least running some Bitcoin miners they might make some $ for their student club.  It will be a good lesson in economics if nothing else.  I will be running mine in my utility room.  I have three 20 amp circuits close by that I can use.

SP20 is better built, and only $400 SHIPPED if you buy a 3-pack. The S5 price does not include shipping (another $60 for 1 unit, or ~$150/3)

Unfortunately the SP20 nano farm isn't under $1000. If the budget can be stretched though, I would say $1200 for 3 SP20s is a decently better deal than 3 S5s for $1173 shipped.

yes and if he wants a data center the sp20 is better due  to the far more rugged external case.

one thing @ op    I would think 1400gh for the sp20  or maybe 1500  not 1600 -1700 as cooling is hard at those levels

The SP20 has the S5 beat and most will tell you the same. Customer Service is a huge part of these as well and again you will be pleased with the professionalism of the SP team even if you do have issues, but I doubt you will. They investigate issues, put a policy in place, and have a much more effective firmware response to not only issues but improvements. Night and Day.

Transaction fees go to the pools and the pools decide to pay them to the miners. Anything else, including off-chain solutions are stealing and not the way Bitcoin was intended to function.
Make the block size set by the pool. Pool = miners and they get the choice.

I'll back that up, 300Th/s+ of Bitmain gear (most purchased before Spondoolies hit), and 100Th/s+ of Spondoolies gear, Spondoolies end-to-end support, quality have them way in front of Bitmain as long as they can stay reasonably competitive on pricing..

From my limited experience SP20 is really quiet and efficient at low settings

S5 have that 9V capability to reach amazing efficiency, but just not practical without a special PSU or some kind of cable work
