I see bitcoin really capable of hurting paypal. There are A LOT of people who absolutely hate the service but are tied into it because it's pretty much the de facto option for auction sites. So then EBAY, (who own paypal), might take a hit, who else, Western Union?? Thoughts?

If BTC gets big enough to actually impact Ebay (paypal) or WU, the amount that you'll make off the short will be orders of magnitude smaller then the amount you would make holding BTC.

As I stated in this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=94046.0

An examination of bitcoin capturing just 1% of Western Union's money transfer business. In short, it would be quite impressive, and I'm pretty sure we're slowly cannibalizing money transfer organizations around the world as we speak, it just hasn't reached the tipping point yet.

+10,000 to this.

And short the Indexes that are denominated by USD, etc. not individual stocks.

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

JPM, C, BAC, and MS would have been good ones to short before today Wink.

If you believe in bitcoin, it's probably best to just invest in bitcoin.

If I understand correctly the broker will give you cash for selling the stock you borrowed and you only have to leave part of it behind. The rest could go build your BTC position.
