see title!

discuss!

my tesis is that namecoin is dropping because people are pulling money out, and speculates in bitcoin instead.
and i think it will go up again soon... so I BUY BUY BUY!

Namecoin has a suggested use but given there are like 5 people squatting all the good domain names....its pointless...no market....just monopoly (sort of)

I think it's an attention getting action and is relatively cheap to pull off since the NMC market is much smaller than the BTC one. Namecoin's success depends on DNS becoming effectively manipulated so as to become unreliable.

NMC has dropped in BTC terms but not in USD or CAD terms where is trading above the prices in February - March of this year.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Here is another one! http://www.cryptotron.com/
This is only for BTC-e.com  though, and is still very new, so it has some stability issues.

I don't see any namecoin charts in that.

In the top left, there is a drop down menu for currency pairs.

If you're talking about the one I linked to, I know! It's been like that since earlier... pretty much right after I posted (figures). Like I said, it's new, it's still getting the bugs worked out.

Heck, this chart looks just like the bitcoin price one from May'11 to November'12!

To know, whether the bottom is reached it would be nice to know where the bubble started from. Is this chart as far back as ANY data (numeric data as well as charts) dates back?

Ok, I found some data from further back (since October'11). It looks like namecoin had its big bubble even before that (dont know when the first NMC exchange operated). What is also supprising is, that the price for NMC skyrockets, when USD/BTC prices dip (in the chart provided such an antiproportionality is logical due to the pair of BTC/NMC BUT! the resulting swings are overproportinal by far). Are people hedging against their losses in bitcoin with namecoin?

In that way we should see a rise in NMC prices as soon as USD/BTC goes down.

I think Im going to buy some soon Wink

NMC has dropped in BTC terms but not in USD or CAD terms where is trading above the prices in February - March of this year.
So why is there nobody arbing? Buy NMC with BTC, Sell NMC for USD, buy BTC with USD --> profit!
Or, if you want to sell your BTC, buy NMC with it then sell that --> profit!

Where can you trade NMC for USD?  Most places only let you trade NMC for BTC.

Well it seems that only vircurex trades NMC for USD nowadays and they have no real volume to speak of.  I just don't see that arbitrage opportunity available without it, unless that is why it exists at all.
