Litcoinpool is under a ongoing DDOS attack notroll.in seems now. Furthermore coinotron started behaving strangely today for me.

Could the attacker aim to damage the whole Litecoin network?
Anyway I am solo mining as a counter measure and you should too.

Have you read the wiki?  I've never read anything more slanted in my life.  Someone fears litecoin.

Is this yours?  I just found it on the webs.  I'll remove it if you like.

No, don't remove it! I'm glad somebody uses it. You can even have the sourcecode (done in povray) if you like Smiley

Yeah, not sure why people are pool mining with difficulty < 10.
Well you can't compare the difficulty with BTC the effect is somewhat a magnitude different. If you have whole or multiple rigs it is probably right but for people chucking along with something like 200kh it is convenient since it takes a few days to find a block.

Currently solo mining too.
Thanks. We need more people to do solo mining or join p2pool to guard the network

Yeah, not sure why people are pool mining with difficulty < 10.
Litecoin's hash speed is 1/1000 bitcoin's speed and still growing. Last time I check it's 180 MH/s, it's 220 MH/s now.
That's 40 GH/s growth in bitcoin world, or equal to another 57 AMD Radeon HD 5970 or 114 AMD Radeon HD 5850 that join in from last week.

5850 Litecoin : 350 kH/s
5850 Bitcoin : 350 MH/s

Both pools are confirmed down.
Notroll.in owner said it's not worth it to purchase DDos protection and he'll shut down notroll.in
When a couple of person have more than 50,000 - 100,000 bitcoins in his pocket for being early adopter, you know what they'll do to protect their investment.
If it's not worthy to be attacked, they'll just let the coins live a peaceful life since it's not a threat.

The positive side of this attack is that after all of this is over, all pools that survived will be somewhat DDos-proof and pool owners will learn how to deal with this attack.
It's a good thing the attacker attack Litecoin now, if they attack it when the price is growing to really valueable, it'll cause chaos to the market.

Please use CGMiner and set backup mining pools (at least 3-5) so you still continue mining even if one pool is down.

@Everybody

LTC isn't under attack, just the pools.

If I were a guessing person, I would suspect someone is hitting the pools to drop the difficulty and then come online with about 80 gigs and a huge botnet they haven't mined with in about 6 months. I don't think you would have to worry about a 51% attack either as that would be very detrimental to the chain and basically ruin any chance of making a killing at a future date.

Of course all of this just conjecture but expect to see a massive spike in network hash power when the DDoS ends.

i'm pretty certain BCX's above post was pure sarcasm.

i read it as an admission of current involvement, and an outline of his plans going forward.

I just hope this nonsense doesn't end up hurting Litecoin or Bitcoin.

I'm working on setting up a private pool for my group of friends. This seems to be the best option for the time being with Litecoin.
