I wasn't aware there was a 2012 Casascius Series 1 Brass 1 BTC Error Coin.   Is it a different coin you're referring to?

I don't think there is a 2012 1 BTC series-1.

Auction for a 2011 error coin, current high bid 0.15 BTC:

Agreed

Only Series 1 holo has the error. It was only used on 2011 1 BTC coins. 2012 1 BTC used series 2 holos

Series 1 holo also used on the 5BTC coins. Not in 2011 though. (2012 saw both series 1 and series 2 5s)

Are you sure about that?

My understanding has always been that that a signifigant number of coins marked '2012' have the S1 hologram.

Perhaps I only assumed that because many were funded in 2012.

Pretty sure that is not the case. I have been into these coins for a couple of years now and never seen a 2012 single with an S1 hologram.

Yep purely funding in 2012. Have a look at uberbills. Go to casascius, 1 btc, series 1. Then you can look at all the s1 finding dates.

Confirmed - there are no (known) 2012-dated 1BTC coins with the S1 holograms. The only 2012-dated denomination to get S1 holograms was the 5BTC coin: http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius/variety/5-btc-series-1

The other way around exists, though, for the 1BTC coins; ie, there were some 2011-dated 1BTC coins with Series-2 holograms.

That explains where my confusion came from
