Hi all. Ive been using BTC for about a year now.
Problem is ive been wasting a lot of money buying them through this website called VIRWOX. The fees are high but i loved the convenience of being able to use a debit card.

I usually buy coins and get charged around 10% in total fees. Yea pretty high i know.

Well i just completed a transaction and it went like this...

Deposited 120 USD
Received 115 USD (after fees)
...
Converted 115 USD into SSL (linden dollars for some virtual game)
and converted the SSL into...... $99 of btc......

That's almost 18% in fees!
EDIT: about 20% IN FEES! WTF

So whats the safest way to buy BTC with moneygram and recieve it within 24hrs or less?
I know about Localbitcoins.com but i fear using it after hearing about possible scams.
How do i avoid moneygram scams? Is there an easier way?

Thanks!

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Yeah Virmox is well known to be truste but their only problem is the huge fees .
If I were you , I would simply post in the Currency exchange section here on bitcointalk :  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0
Note that you be careful here , Go first only with "high trusted" members or if it's a too high amount then make sure to use an Escrow for your safety . People will for sure not go first with you since your rank is "Newbie" .

Why do you need Moneygram to buy BTC, especially if you're using a debit card?

Just buy it at Coinbase or Circle:

https://www.coinbase.com/

https://www.circle.com/en

Fees very minimal to Virwox, and definitely nowhere close to 20%.  Also, cheaper than buying from LocalBitcoins.

Despite what you have heard, localbitcoins is generally safe for the buyer.

1. Go with a reputable seller and follow the instructions in the ad exactly.
2. Never cancel the transaction after sending the money.
3. Don't store your bitcoins on the site.

I have never used moneygram so I can't give you more specific information about using it.

Here is more information: https://localbitcoins.com/guides/how-to-buy-bitcoins

Fees minimal in Virwox? just lol, they are really high, at least they where the last time I bought some from them when i needed btc quick.
And it wasnt as quick because I needed to wait to withdraw the btc anway.

Reread what I posted in it's entirety.  I said Fees (on Coinbase and Circle) are minimal compared to Virwox.

Context, my man.

Why not use ordinary wire transfer to an exchange ?
But if you insist on moneygram, perhaps you go and search for a service that fits you.

I don't know if this one is trustworthy, but this is what I found within 5 minutes ->
