The Commission should be invited to explore rules obliging internet and telecommunications companies operating in the EU to provide under certain conditions as set out in the relevant national laws and in full compliance with fundamental rights access of the relevant national authorities to communications (i.e. share encryption keys).

WOW! That is insane, if true.
It's not talked much about, probably because national media in different European countries don't follow what happens in the EU. For example there is supposedly a European Union president, but does anyone even know his name? I don't. A large share of the European Union leadership have their political roots in former soviet satellite states with one party systems (the communist party). Craziness is expected to come from that. |

What's the big deal. Simply stick to communication and storage services that don't HAVE your encryption key: SpiderOak, Wuala, Telegram (using Secret Chat), BitTorrent Bleep, etc.
No government can't force a company to share or reveal something they simply don't have.

Even if this happens it will just be the start of a creation of new technologies that circumvent it.
Yep, exactly. In fact it's already begun. Plenty of alternatives that work on "need to know" basis. And you simply don't need to know your user's encryption keys to offer them cloud storage or communication or messaging services. |
