Never keep your "coins" in an exchange, this is the first rule. However we should wait news from them, I don't think they has been hacked.

It seems that they have scammed on us (I presumably lost over 3.5 BTC there)... Cool

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

No, I don't think they have scammed. Most probable they are fixing something on their site (level "side").

I just moved my bitcoins to buy some doges at lows yesterday and earlier today, just couldn't withdraw doges today (was at zero BTC balance)... Cool

Hope doges are intact

It's all gone.

Everything.

I am sure a lot of people would now be disappointed and probably not try out these exchanges any more.

Well at least bitcoin was not hacked, and since the only things that can bring bitcoin down are the exact same things that could bring down:

BitShares - where 24/7 trading never goes down unless bitcoin fails), and no human is obligated to send you anything.

www.bitshares.org

counterparty (BTER) risk-free!

But the news is scaring people away which is important for growth.
The hack is in a way bad for bitcoin.

Hackers will keep on hacking but exchanges won't learn ever and it's shame that how these exchanges take users for granted. Now BTER will start another round of negotiations with hackers and beg for BTC.

Do you think the hacker will keep their bounty instead to keep the +7k bitcoin? There will not be the threat of the fork ( as in the 50 mln of nxt robbed).

Bigger question is how these exchanges are always at the mercy of hackers . If they can't keep their websites secure then no need to put money of users at risk , just shut off the exchange and return the money.

If it will be arranged that the hacker will be able to safely spend the bounty (say they transfer it to an obscure address and keep it secret until the money is gone), I guess he is going to opt for it... Cool

The Bitcoin suffers from the idiots that can't secure their exchanges.

But on the other hand, it looks like an inside job.

They take the BTC, let all other users to withdraw the alts(as good deed), close the exchange and go celebrate.
